Abstract:

A system for laser microperforated fresh produce trays for use in modifying or controlling the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and/out of a fresh produce container, where the microperforations are specifically tailored such as by size, location and number for the specific produce. The packaging system tailors microperforated trays for particular produce to optimally preserve the produce, using a method of making registered microperforations on the trays using at least some of the following: a conveyor, a thickness measuring devise, a sensor mechanism, and a laser system including optics.

Abstract:

Apparatus and methods for differential pressure, counter gravity, casting of metal in a gas-permeable mold having a vertical passage with a lower open end for introducing molten metal into its mold cavity means. A crucible is provided for holding molten metal with its surface positioned beneath the mold. The crucible and the mold are relatively movable toward and away from one another for introducing molten metal into the lower open end of the mold, and pressure means is provided for applying a differential pressure to the mold and crucible to cause molten metal to fill the mold cavity means through the vertical passage. A rigid, permanently crimpable fill pipe is sealingly connected to the lower open end of the vertical mold passage with its lower end extending vertically downwardly toward the crucible. Fill pipe crimping means is positioned between the mold and crucible for selectively permanently crimping the fill pipe to close it, after filling of the mold cavity means, to prevent reverse flow of molten metal from the mold to the crucible as the mold and fill pipe are moved relatively away from the crucible.

Abstract:

A method of casting metal in a gas permeable shell mold in which a vacuum is applied to an external upper mold surface by engaging the mold in the downwardly facing opening of a generally cylindrical vacuum chamber, defined by a chamber wall with a threaded region sized and shaped to snuggly engage a side mold surface. Engagement is effected by forcing the mold into the chamber opening while causing relative rotation of the mold and chamber.

Abstract:

A loosening-resistant threaded fastener system and method of use includes a washer that is axially movable on a threaded stud, a threaded nut having threads which cooperate with the threaded stud, and a washer anti-rotation mechanism to prevent the washer from rotating on the stud about a fastening axis. One of the washer and the nut may include a plurality of protrusions while the other of the washer and the nut has a plurality of detents. The protrusions and the detents engage one another at a plurality of angular positions. Rotating the nut on the stud while in contact with the washer results in distinct, audible clicks which may be counted to obtain a pre-determined tightness.
