  • Appl. No.:
    09/945612
  • Inventors:
Evan Vande Haar - Pella IA, US
  • Assignee:
    Maytag Corporation
  • International Classification:
    D06F033/02
  • US Classification:
    008/158000, 008/159000, 068/012120
  • Abstract:
To assure the mixing of detergent into a wash solution during an initial portion of a wash cycle in a clothes washing machine, particularly a horizontal axis or tumble-type washing machine, an additional operational step is employed wherein an inner tub or wash basket of the machine is rotated at a higher than normal speed to create a turbulence for the purpose of mixing and distributing the wash solution. Most preferably, this additional step occurs shortly after the washing machine has been filled with water for a programmed washing operation.

  • Filed:
    Sep 5, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/945617
  • Inventors:
Francis Cheo - Newton IA, US
Ted Hansen - Pella IA, US
James Hull - Newton IA, US
Evan Vande Haar - Pella IA, US
  • Assignee:
    Maytag Corporation
  • International Classification:
    D06F039/02
  • US Classification:
    008/158000, 008/159000, 068/01700R
  • Abstract:
A detergent collection tray is provided at a position spaced above a drain port in the sump area of an outer tub of a washing machine, particularly a horizontal axis washing machine. As detergent enters the washing machine during an initial fill operation, the detergent will be caused to flow into the tray and will be prevented from flowing directly into the drain. Therefore, the tray prevents the loss of detergent into the drain by functioning to capture or collect the detergent for use during the washing operation.

User cycle selections, along with sensed operating parameters including the level and temperature of a washing medium, are used to control the activation state of the heater to control the washing medium to within a preset range of a target temperature. Preferably, the heater is de-activated after a predetermined period of activation has been reached, whenever a door of the washing machine is opened, and during certain selected operating cycle portions, including a bleach fill and latter time cycle portions.

  • Inventors:
Craig Ruhl - Altoona IA, US
Evan Vande Haar - Pella IA, US
  • Assignee:
    Maytag Corporation
  • International Classification:

    008/158000, 008/159000, 068/012020, 068/208000, 068/012120, 068/012140
  • Abstract:
A drain pump of a washing machine is cyclically activated during a drain operation conducted as part of a spin cycle in a manner which reduces the run time of the pump. At least one dynamic operating parameter of the washing machine is sensed and used to control the operation of the drain pump. In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, the rotational speed of the wash tub is sensed and, when a predetermined spin speed is maintained for a prescribed period of time, the drain operation is initiated. Water level, pump power and/or drive motor torque can also be utilized as pump cycling control parameters.

An apparatus, method and system of wash action control for an automatic washing machine. A manually operable user interface allows selection from between a plurality of discrete agitation speed selections which comprise at least a continuous speed agitation mode for a given agitation period during a wash cycle and an intermittent speed agitation mode for at least a part of a given agitation period. The intermittent speed agitation mode automatically varies agitation speed between at least two sub-periods of the given agitation period. The variation in agitation speed can be between a faster and a slower speed or a certain speed and no agitation.

  • Filed:
    Nov 17, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/715018
  • Inventors:
Evan Vande Haar - Pella IA, US
Timothy Miller - Newton IA, US
James Thompson - Colfax IA, US
Douglas Ochsner - Ankeny IA, US
  • Assignee:

  • US Classification:
    008159000, 068196000, 06802300R, 068024000
  • Abstract:
The method of the present invention includes rotating the washing basket at a tumble speed insufficient to plaster the fabrics against the basket wall. The rotational speed is increased to a first plaster speed which causes the fabrics to be plastered against the basket wall. The plaster speed is increased to a second plaster speed higher than the first. Then the rotational speed of the washing basket is returned to the first plaster speed and the washing fluid is drained from the washing basket. The spin cycle is then begun. During the spin cycle a torque or speed sensor senses increased torque or reduced rotational speed of the washing basket caused by fabrics frictionally engaging the flexible boot during rotation of the washing basket at the spin speed. If such conditions are sensed, the spin cycle is terminated.
