Interests:
Creating a strong and vital understanding and spirit of philanthropy. Looking back over almost 40 years in the fields of philanthropy and fundraising (and yes, they are quite separable!), I see a diminishing role of philanthropy and the ascendance of fundraising (the technical operations we use). This disappoint me because the emphasis is increasingly on treating most donors as ATM--where we punch in a few numbers and expect the cash to come sliding into our eager hands. This type of fundraising (which is not philanthropy and is, in fact, anathema too philanthropy) is increasingly practiced and rewarded by nonprofit organizations. If you'd like to hear more about these views, please contact me.
