Abstract:

A method for gasifying carbonaceous materials to fuel gases comprises the formation of an ultra-superheated steam (USS) composition substantially containing water vapor, carbon dioxide and highly reactive free radicals thereof, at a temperature of about 2400 F. (1316 C. ) to about 5000 F. (2760 C. ). The USS composition comprising a high temperature clear, colorless flame is contacted with a carbonaceous material for rapid gasification/reforming thereof. The need for significant superstoichiometric steam addition for temperature control. Methods for controlling a gasification/reforming system to enhance efficiency are described. A USS burner for a fluidized bed gasification/reforming reactor, and methods of construction, are described.

Abstract:

Waste material is incinerated to heat water to produce low-temperature steam (). The steam is mixed with oxygen () to produce synthetic air. Methane () (first fuel) is burnt in the synthetic air to produce ultra-superheated steam at about 1600 C. Coal particles () are gasified in the ultra-superheated steam producing a second fuel, which is combusted in hot air. The products of combustion are expanded isothermally in a turbine (T) to produce electricity (). The hot waste gas from the turbine is used to heat air () isothermally compressed in a compressor (C) in the presence of a water spray (). The heated air supports the combustion of the gasified coal and the cooled waste product is employed for district heating purposes.

Abstract:

An iris assembly for a prosthetic eye comprising a button having a frontside surface. An iris member is joined to the button frontside surface and has an iris image disposed thereon. The iris image is provided using digital image capture, storage, enhancement, and printing techniques, and is provided onto a suitable substrate. A cornea piece is made from a clear material, and is joined to the iris member frontside surface. Prior to joining, the iris member is encapsulated with a clear protective film thereover that operates to protect the iris image from unwanted smudging or other type of distortion during the step of joining the cornea piece. The iris assembly yields an accurate reproduction of the iris portion of a patient's natural eye in a manner that is both time efficient and cost effective.
