  • Abstract:
A system that facilitates and implements energy savings decisions by a home owner. The system will provide a mechanism to reduce the peak level of energy demand. A controller in logical communication with energy consuming appliances responds to request for energy from energy consuming appliances and devices by permitting or curtailing energy supply to the appliances or devices based on evaluation of a plurality of logical considerations. The controller may be operated to provide energy to fewer than all of the energy requesting appliances to reduce the energy demand on an energy supply source, including the instantaneous peak demand.

  • Assignee:
Whirlpool Corporation - Benton Harbor MI
  • International Classification:
    F25D 11/00
  • US Classification:
    62440
  • Abstract:
An elongated polymeric ribbon is mounted to the cabinet of a refrigerator/freezer or the door and at least one electrical conductor is integrally formed in the ribbon, which also integrally includes at least one fluid conduit. In one embodiment, the ribbon is mounted in association with an elongated spine, such that a module can be mounted anywhere along the spine and coupled to the polymeric ribbon for receiving operating utilities therefrom. This system provides the manufacturer with the capability of positioning a module requiring operating utilities at any desired location within a refrigerator/freezer cabinet and/or on the doors of the refrigerator/freezer. The ribbon connector is accessed by connections which allow dealers to customize refrigerators for individual consumers.
  • Method And Apparatus For Managing Resources Of Utility Providers

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20040083112, Apr 29, 2004
  • Filed:
    Oct 25, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/280902
  • Inventors:
Gale Horst - Watervliet MI, US
  • International Classification:
    G06F017/60
  • US Classification:
    705/001000, 705/412000
  • Abstract:
A method and system for managing resources of various types of utility providers. An interface is configured to allow a consumer to select a rate plan having a limitation on resource usage, and to allow the consumer to select a level of participation in the rate plan. The consumer's actual resource usage is then monitored. A cost per unit of resource consumed is determined based on the selected rate plan and the actual resource usage, where the cost per unit is a first cost per unit if the actual resource usage is below the limitation and a second higher cost per unit if the actual resource usage exceeds the limitation. A total charge for the use of the resource is then calculated.
  • System And Method For Reducing An Instantaneous Load In An Appliance

  • US Patent:
    20040098171, May 20, 2004
  • Filed:
    Nov 15, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/295148
  • Inventors:
Gale Horst - Watervliet MI, US
  • International Classification:
    G05D017/00
  • US Classification:
    700/295000
  • Abstract:
An appliance having at least one component, a receiver, and a controller. The component is configured to operate in a normal operation mode and a resource savings mode; wherein an instantaneous resource demand of the at least one component is greater during the normal operation mode than during the resource savings mode. The receiver is adapted to receive a curtailment signal. The controller is connected to the receiver and the component, and determines if a curtailment signal has been received by the receiver. If the curtailment signal was received, the controller determines whether the component should be operated in the resource savings mode, and if so, the controller operates the component in the resource savings mode, and if not, the controller operates the component operated in the normal operation mode.
