  • Filed:
    Dec 6, 2007
  • Appl. No.:
    11/951922
  • Inventors:
Gary L. Hein - Oakley IL, US
Douglas S. Hein - Decatur IL, US
  • Assignee:
Lincoln Diagnostics, Inc. - Decatur IL
  • International Classification:
    B65D 73/00
  • US Classification:
    206569, 206470
  • Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention are directed to a skin testing-device system. The system includes a tray, a well holder that snaps into the tray and that holds a plurality of rows of test-solution wells, and a well holder-assembly lid that snaps into the tray over the well holder. The well-holder may include see-through windows such that a test-solution level is visible for substantially each of the test-solution wells from one or more single viewpoints, which may be elevated, and offset, from the well holder. The well holder-assembly lid may include areas that prevent skin-test devices in the test-solution wells from being dislodged from the test-solution wells while the well holder-assembly lid is snapped into the tray. Embodiments of the invention are directed to a clamshell-package system for holding skin-test devices. The system includes a clamshell package having generally crescent-shaped receptacles in an offset pattern and a clamshell-package lid.

  • Skin Testing And Vaccinating Needles

    view source
  • US Patent:
    56327285, May 27, 1997
  • Filed:
    Nov 28, 1994
  • Appl. No.:
    8/345221
  • Inventors:
Gary L. Hein - Oakley IL
  • Assignee:
Lincoln Diagnostics, Inc. - Decatur IL
  • International Classification:
    A61B 1720
  • US Classification:
    604 46
  • Abstract:
A plastic skin testing and vaccinating needle characterized by an end bifurcated into two sharp points spaced sufficiently close so that the points will form a small hole in the skin when the needle is simultaneously rotated and pressed against the skin. The spacing also causes liquid to adhere to and between the points when the end is dipped in skin testing or vaccinating liquid. The cross-section of the needle shaft is sufficiently large that the needle can be readily rotated between a user's thumb and index finger. Rotation is facilitated by altering or roughening the surface of the shaft so as to reduce slippage during rotation. Preferably, the needle is formed in a die produced by electro-discharge machining so as to have an etched or matte surface which enhances the adherence of liquid to the bifurcated end.
  • Device For Transferring Liquid From A Vial To A Multi-Pointed Applicator

    view source
  • US Patent:
    47597550, Jul 26, 1988
  • Filed:
    Nov 12, 1966
  • Appl. No.:
    6/929756
  • Inventors:
Gary L. Hein - Oakley IL
Donald R. Mowen - Decatur IL
  • Assignee:
Lincoln Diagnostics, Inc. - Decatur IL
  • International Classification:
    A61B 1900
  • US Classification:
    604403
  • Abstract:
An elongated sleeve member having an upper open end and a lower open end, and with an annular flange extending radially outwardly from adjacent the open lower end is affixed to an elongated stem member in a substantially vertical orientation for immersion in a liquid substance held in a vial. A sleeve-like surface extending between the open ends of the elongated sleeve member, and a surface defining the lower end of the sleeve and an outwardly extending annular flange provide means to remove a consistent quantity of a liquid substance, such as a liquid allergenic agent, from a storage vessel or vial, and to transfer the liquid to a receiving scarifier structure, such as a cluster of multiple scarifier points. The outer periphery and upper surface of the flange provide a means for carrying excess liquid, and the flange provides for wiping the excess liquid from the sleeve member and flange prior to dispensing a desired quantity of liquid allergenic agent onto a cluster of scarifier points.
  • Pitch Changing Device For Guitar

    view source
  • US Patent:
    49693824, Nov 13, 1990
  • Filed:
    Feb 8, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/476936
  • Inventors:
Gary L. Hein - Decatur IL
Douglas S. Hein - Elk Grove IL
  • Assignee:
Lincoln Diagnostics, Inc. - Decatur IL
  • International Classification:
    G10D 304
  • US Classification:
    84319
  • Abstract:
A pitch changing device or slide bar for a guitar. The device is tubular and the outer surface tapers from an enlarged midportion toward the opposite ends so as to provide a generally convex exterior which allows the player to selectively engage only a single guitar string at a time or any two adjacent strings at a time.
  • System For Multi-Site Skin Testing And Components Thereof

    view source
  • US Patent:
    57920710, Aug 11, 1998
  • Filed:
    Jan 11, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/583771
  • Inventors:
Gary L. Hein - Oakley IL
  • Assignee:
    Lincoln Diagnostics - Decatur IL
  • International Classification:
    A61B 500
  • US Classification:
    600556
  • Abstract:
A system for making multi-site skin tests primarily for use by allergists making use of a multi-head applicator and a matching multi-well dipwell tray. The applicator has an elongated handle with arms extending transversely from opposite sides having downwardly extending legs terminating in multi-pointed ends or heads capable of picking up and retaining small quantities of liquid skin-testing substances. The multi-point ends or heads occupy the same plane and are arrayed in a pattern suited for simultaneously making multi-site skin tests. The applicator cooperates with a multi-well dipwell tray with a plurality of dipwells arrayed in patterns which match the pattern in which the multi-pointed ends or heads on the cooperating applicator are arrayed. The individual dipwells have a capacity to hold quantities of skin testing substances or medicaments equaling many times the volume of a single dose or increment that is picked up by one of the multi-pointed ends or heads on an applicator. Both the applicator and dipwell tray have guidance formations thereon whereby the user can readily orient the multi-point pick-up ends or heads on the applicator with the dipwells so that the heads can be readily and accurately lowered into the matching dipwells without damaging the points of the applicator.
  • Dipwell Tray With Multiplicity Of Needle Orienting Dipwells

    view source
  • US Patent:
    53969898, Mar 14, 1995
  • Filed:
    Apr 4, 1994
  • Appl. No.:
    8/222089
  • Inventors:
Gary L. Hein - Oakley IL
  • Assignee:
Lincoln Diagnostics, Inc. - Decatur IL
  • International Classification:
    B65D 8302
  • US Classification:
    206366
  • Abstract:
A dipwell tray for a variety of liquids to be selectively applied by sharp pointed needles to a person's skin. For example, the liquids may be antigens used in skin testing for allergies. The tray has a number of so-called dipwells with co-planar mouths or top openings. In use, the liquids are introduced into the dipwells and the needles are then inserted into the dipwells, making the set-up loaded and ready for the needles to be removed one-by-one with liquid adhering to their sharp points. In order to facilitate the removal of the needles the top openings of the dipwells are provided with oriented needle-receiving pockets whereby the needles in the dipwells will be inclined in a desired oriented direction.
