Abstract:

A universal dental implant abutment system is provided which includes an abutment collar and a fixation screw. The abutment collar has a proximal end portion adapted for fixation to a dental prosthesis and a distal end portion adapted for coupling with an implant body. The fixation screw is disposed within a longitudinal bore of the abutment collar and has a threaded distal end for securement to the implant body. The fixation screw has a head portion formed on a proximal end thereof, the head portion having a longitudinally directed bore formed therein. The longitudinal bore of the head of the fixation screw is formed with two longitudinally spaced sections. One section has a non-circular cross-sectional contour adapted for receiving a driving tool therein. The other section has internal threads formed therein adapted for threaded engagement with a retention fastener of a prosthesis.

Abstract:

An endosseous implant body for affixing an orthopedic prosthesis into bone is provided. The implant body generally has at least four segments disposed proximate to a coronal end of the implant body. Each segment consists of a frustro-conical compression moiety and a frustro-conical tension moiety. The angles of incidence and the surface areas of the compression moieties are chosen so that, when the body is implanted into bone and a lateral force is applied to the coronal end of the body, that portion of the lateral force which is exerted by the compression moiety of each segment against the surrounding bone is greater than that portion of the lateral force which is exerted by the compression moiety of an adjacent segment disposed more proximate to the coronal end. Likewise, the angles of incidence and the surface areas of the tension moieties are chosen so that, when the body is implanted into bone and a lateral force is applied to the coronal end of the body, that portion of the lateral force which is exerted by the tension moiety of each segment against the surrounding bone is less than that portion of the lateral force which is exerted by the tension moiety of an adjacent segment disposed more proximate to the coronal end. The implant body of the invention has been found to produce a stable implant sight for orthopedic prostheses, especially dental prostheses.

Abstract:

An endosseous dental implant system comprises a root formed, mechanically retained base and an intimate, inter-locking threaded coronal attachment. The root formed base is comprised of a self-locking, externally threaded, tapered shell, and an anti-rotational internally threaded, countersunk plug which is permanently attached below the coronal surface of the shell, thus forming a single unit. Internally, the coronal portion of the shell has a downward tapered bevel for locking the anti-rotational coronal attachment to the base once attached via the internal threads of the permanently connected countersunk plug. Self-tapping threads are incorporated into the apex of the root formed base for easy insertion and immediate locking with the osteotomy. Downward from the coronal portion through the midsection of the root formed base is a specially designed stress distributing thread for uniform loading through the implant site. Finally, to simulate the physiological conditions, the implant system is manufactured from a material that closely replicates the natural dentition.
