  • Cannula Apparatus

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20110196302, Aug 11, 2011
  • Filed:
    Feb 6, 2010
  • Appl. No.:
    12/658754
  • Inventors:
Michael R. Gildersleeve - Sharon MA, US
George G. Brusard - Lowell MA, US
  • International Classification:
    A61M 25/00
    A61B 1/32
    A61M 1/00
  • US Classification:
    604151, 604523, 600205
  • Abstract:
A canister is fabricated with a tubular wall and with end caps at respective ends of the tubular wall to form an enclosed cannula. Perforations, or openings, extend through at least the tubular wall and one end cap of the canister to facilitate fluid flow into, through and out from the canister to facilitate use of the cannula for irrigation (lavage) and aspiration (suctioning) procedures A fluid port provides an entry and exit for fluid passing into, through and out from the canister. An additional opening is provided to facilitate positioning a thermo probe in the path of fluid flow through the cannula. The openings are preferably substantially rectangular in configuration with rounded corners and are disposed to provide fluid flow openings through approximately 14% of the surface area of the cannula.
  • Ultrasound Imaging Catheter With A Cutting Element

  • US Patent:
    59679840, Oct 19, 1999
  • Filed:
    Nov 27, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/757848
  • Inventors:
    Michael S. H. Chu - Brookline MA
    Yem Chin - Burlington MA
Demetrius H. Bagley - Philadelphia PA
William H. Stahley - Andover MA
David K. Young - Boston MA
Christopher G. Fishbein - Norfolk MA
George G. Brusard - Cambridge MA
  • Assignee:
Boston Scientific Corporation - Natick MA
  • International Classification:
    A61B 812
  • US Classification:
    600439
  • Abstract:
The invention features a catheter having a catheter body of extended length for insertion within a body of a living being. The catheter also includes an ultrasound imaging device disposed within a distal portion of the catheter body. The ultrasound imaging device generates electrical signals used by an ultrasound imaging system to display a real-time image of tissue surrounding the distal portion of the catheter. The catheter further includes a cutting element, e. g. , an electrode wire or a laser fiber, having a proximal portion disposed within the catheter body. The catheter also includes a mechanism connected to the catheter body that causes the distal portion of the cutting element to extend from the catheter body. The distal portion of the cutting element generates energy in tissue with which it is brought in proximity to form a cut in the tissue. The ultrasound imaging device is positioned relative to the cutting element such that the real-time image produced by the ultrasound imaging system can include the cutting element in relation to the tissue.

  • US Patent:
    20200001022, Jan 2, 2020
  • Filed:
    Nov 29, 2017
  • Appl. No.:
    16/464115
  • Inventors:
    - Billerica MA, US
George G. Brusard - Lowell MA, US
Tristan Dion - Billerica MA, US
Yeu Wen Tseng - Watertown MA, US
  • Assignee:
Belmont Instrument, LLC - Billerica MA
  • International Classification:
    A61M 5/44
    A61M 5/36
  • Abstract:
The present disclosure provides improved technologies relating to medical fluid heating systems and apparatus. In certain embodiments, the present disclosure relates to systems and apparatus for heating a fluid and, more particularly, for quickly and controllably heating a flow of blood or a blood product, for example, for infusion into a patient or for hyperthermia treatment. In particular, in a first aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a system and apparatus featuring single flow path fluid heating (“single path flow”). Moreover, in a second aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a system, apparatus, and related method for efficiently utilizing the thermal energy of an infusate stored in a reservoir (“slack time heating”). Furthermore, in a third aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a fluid heating system and apparatus featuring a vacuum release valve designed to prevent the undesired orientation of deformed inflow tubing (“vacuum release valve”).
  • Rapid Infuser With Advantageous Flow Path For Blood And Fluid Warming

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20180147368, May 31, 2018
  • Filed:
    Nov 30, 2016
  • Appl. No.:
    15/364499
  • Inventors:
    - Billerica MA, US
George G. Brusard - Lowell MA, US
Tristan Dion - Billerica MA, US
  • International Classification:
    A61M 5/44
    A61M 5/36
  • Abstract:
Presented herein are a system for heating fluid, which, in certain embodiment, comprises a fluid separator, a conduit, and a plurality of inductors. The system demonstrates a single flow path without compromising advantages of the existing blood warmers, such that the heat exchanger would not experience stagnant flow that may cause overheating of a local flow path.
