Abstract:
Point source X-ray focusing device structures, materials and methods of forming them are provided which exhibit a greatly increased total reflected intensity for a desired X-ray wavelength of interest. The devices include one or more focusing elements which each have a focusing surface with a plurality of layer pairs formed thereon. The focusing surface and the layer pairs are designed to collect, reflect and concentrate the maximum X-ray flux from a point source to a focus point for a particular wavelength of interest.
A device for flash imaging, through an imaging mask at an imaging film plane, a dry-process imaging film having a layer of an energy dispersible image forming material on a surface thereof. The device comprises a solid, electromagnetic energy transmitting body advantageously in the form of a quartz prism having a generally frusto-pyramidal configuration. The energy transmitting body is associated with a source of electromagnetic energy, and acts to collect, direct, collimate and shape the energy emitted by the source to provide maximum utilization and substantially uniform distribution of the energy at the imaging film plane. The device is especially adapted for flash imaging microfiche cards comprised of pre-formed areas or zones of an energy dispersible image forming material, and enables an electromagnetic energy source such as a Xenon flash tube to be operated at lower energy levels for shorter time periods thereby appreciably reducing energy costs and prolonging the useful life of the flash tube, while at the same time providing excellent image resolution in all directions in the imaging film.
Apparatus For Producing Microform Records From Multiple Data Sources
Apparatus for producing microform records from hard copy or a cathode ray tube image or the like fed from a selected data source, includes an image-reducing projection system into which is selectively directed light reflected from hard copy or light from the face of a remote cathode ray tube to which white background CRT image-forming signals are fed. The reduced image involved is preferably applied first to a non-archival heat developable mask-forming film, like a dry silver film, and then the image on this film is transferred preferably to an archival film capable of later receiving additional data on unused portions thereof and most advantageously arranged as a microfiche card. A cathode ray tube smaller than the hard copy is positioned below but in spaced relation to a hard copy receiving platform-containing or receiving image field area. An image magnifying lens system is interposed between the cathode ray tube face and image field area so that an enlarged image of the cathode ray tube face of about the same size as the hard copy is focused in the same plane in said area as the hard copy would occupy if present on the platform. When the cathode ray tube image is present, the platform, which is preferably white opaque, is moved away from the image area so that the light image thereon is directed up into the image-reducing projection system.

Abstract:
An imaging device for flash imaging, through an imaging mask at an imaging film plane, a dry-process imaging film having a layer of an energy dispersible image forming material on a surface thereof. The device comprises electromagnetic energy collecting means which is associated with a source of electromagnetic energy. The energy collecting means includes an energy transmitting body which directs, collimates and shapes the electromagnetic energy emitted by the energy source. The energy collecting means also includes energy intercepting and reflecting members which form a chamber in which the energy source and the energy transmitting body are at least partially encased. A housing is provided for maintaining the energy transmitting body and the energy intercepting and reflecting members in a predetermined position with relation to one another, the energy source and the imaging mask at the imaging film plane. The imaging device is especially adapted for flash imaging microfiche cards comprised of pre-formed areas or zones of an energy dispersible image forming material, and enables an electromagnetic energy source such as a Xenon flash tube to be operated at lower energy levels for shorter time periods thereby appreciably reducing energy costs and prolonging the useful life of the flash tube, while at the same time providing excellent image resolution in all directions in the imaging film.

An improved X-ray monochromatizing subassembly, method and system are provided by a plurality of X-ray dispersive structures which are spaced and aligned to intercept X-rays and reflect monochromatized X-rays from the intercepted X-rays. The system includes a source of X-rays and an X-ray detector for detecting the monochromatized reflected X-rays. The monochromatized X-rays can be designed to be diverging, parallel or converging and can be designed for a particular wavelength of interest.
