A method for constructing data patterns of interest is provided. The method includes creating one or more alert clause expressions and evaluating the one or more alert clause expressions based on a parameter of interest and a plurality of conditions. The method further includes combining the one or more alert clause expressions in a selected manner to generate an alert signal. The one or more data patterns of interest are described by the one or more alert clause expressions and the alert signal.

Abstract:

A method of identifying a set of entities based on a pattern of interest is provided. The method includes identifying a reference entity and identifying one or more alert categories indicative of a pattern of interest in the reference entity over a time period of interest. The method further comprises determining a matching percentage of the pattern of interest exhibited by the reference entity, in one or more entities comprising the set of entities based on the one or more alert categories. The method further comprises identifying one or more of the entities comprising the set of entities that exhibit one or more of the patterns of interest exhibited by the reference entity, based on the matching percentage.

A technique is presented for detecting manipulation in a market. The technique may be used with a web-based market that enables a plurality of traders to transact or to speculate in an item. A record of each transaction between the traders of the market is stored. The transaction records are accessed and processed to identify transactions representative of a potential manipulation of the market. To identify a potential manipulation of the market, the transaction records are processed to identify transactions between a first trading account established by a trader and a second trading account established as an alias trading account. In addition, the transaction records are processed to identify transaction executed as part of a plan of collusion between two or more traders.

Abstract:

A method and system for preparing a program for customization. The customization system “compiles” a computer program by identifying the content of each statement of the computer program that may be customized. The customization system identifies the type associated with each statement. Based on the type of statement, the customization system identifies content of the statement that can be customized and stores the identified content in a custom content bundle. The customization system then replaces the identified content in the statement with an include content command that includes the content identifier of the corresponding content. When the computer program is executed, the include content command of the statement causes the retrieving of a content associated with its content identifier from a custom content bundle.
