An above-grade trafficway barrier adapted to arrest heavy vehicles, with an obstruction member extending between opposite sides of the trafficway, and controlled by its known mass deposed upon the grade level and preferably by spaced inertia blocks deposed at opposite sides of the trafficway, the known mass not to exceed the strength of the obstruction member and coupling thereof regardless of the vehicle mass. Impact force being gradually applied and dissipated by the known mass through a lever system with simultaneous roll, turn and sliding movements of said spaced masses; whereby the obstruction member is not subjected to greater force exerted by the impacting vehicle.
A semaphore type trafficway barrier for arresting vehicles, and comprised of spaced posts at opposite sides of the trafficway, one a pivot post disposed on a vertical axis and with a yieldable mounting rotatable plate on the post to carry a beam to swing between an open ineffective position to a closed effective position as well as to yield to impact, and characterized by a cable anchored to the pivot post and carried by the beam with an end engaged over a bit on the other post at the opposite side of the trafficway.

A bollard type trafficway barrier for arresting vehicles, comprised of a cast in place foundation and a bollard replaceable therein with a spring for lifting the bollard that is directionally oriented with respect to traffic so as to withstand great impacts, and with access for replacement of the bollard, with retraction by manual depression and extension by instantaneous release of potential energy stored in said spring, the bollard being locked in both the retracted and extended conditions, and installation being flush with the grade when retracted and the bollard being released manually or power controlled from a remote location by a vehicle sensor.
A visible traffic controller permitting one-way and preventing wrong-way flow of vehicle traffic, and including a safety feature for the prevention of serious bodily injury to persons who might accidentally encounter the same, and comprising retractile barrier blades operated to functional position by noninjurious levers raised by soft spring action to be encountered by a vehicle tire in both the one-way and wrong-way directions of flow, and operable by a vehicle moving in the later direction to damage its tires.
