  • At Rest Vacuum State For Vacuum Decay Leak Testing Method And System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    8544315, Oct 1, 2013
  • Filed:
    Nov 19, 2010
  • Appl. No.:
    12/950757
  • Inventors:
Dana Guazzo - Bridgewater NJ, US
Heinz Wolf - Hackettstown NJ, US
  • International Classification:
    G01M 3/20
  • US Classification:
    73 407
  • Abstract:
A method and apparatus for leak testing of liquid and non-liquid filled rigid and semi-rigid nonporous containers wherein a container is enclosed in a conforming test chamber and subjected to vacuum while the pressure within the chamber is monitored by an absolute pressure transducer, alone or in combination with a second differential transducer, to determine if leaks are present in the container and wherein the test apparatus or system remains under low pressure or vacuum conditions while leak tests are not actively in progress such that the system is maintained at an at-rest low vacuum condition to minimize pressure sensor drift and to eliminate build-up of vapors or gases within the apparatus or test system between tests that may hinder the speed and sensitivity of the leak tests.
  • Method And Apparatus For Leak Testing Packages

    view source
  • US Patent:
    51116847, May 12, 1992
  • Filed:
    Nov 21, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/616840
  • Inventors:
    Anton Stauffer - Bedford NY
Heinz Wolf - Budd Lake NJ
  • Assignee:
    Pack Systems - Tuchahoe NY
  • International Classification:
    G01M 336
  • US Classification:
    73 493
  • Abstract:
A method and apparatus for leak testing a sealed package having at least one flexible wall portion and a sealed flange wherein at least one flexible wall portion of the package spaced from at least a seal-exposing edge of the sealed flange is gripped and pulled outwardly from the package to stress the package in tension while at least the seal-exposing edge of the sealed flange is exposed to a gas pressure equal to or greater than atmospheric pressure. The reaction of the sealed package to the stressing is then detected. The method and apparatus are useful for testing retort or aseptic pouches, cups and multi-layered trays with heat sealed lids, etc. , with or without head space. Leaks in the seal and also in areas adjacent the seal can advantageously be detected quickly and with a high degree of reliability.

    G01M 3/16
    G01R 31/16
  • Abstract:
A leak detection system includes a high voltage leak detection (HVLD) testing system configured to inspect a package using a HVLD apparatus that includes an inspection electrode and a detection electrode. The leak detection system includes a grounding system that includes a grounding element. The grounding system is configured to remove, significantly reduce, or conduct away electric charge accumulation on the package. The leak detection system also includes a controller configured to operate and coordinate the operation of the grounding system with the operation of the HVLD testing system.
  • System And Method For Alternating-Direct High Voltage Leak Detection

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20210072112, Mar 11, 2021
  • Filed:
    Oct 8, 2020
  • Appl. No.:
    17/065607
  • Inventors:
    - Tuckahoe NY, US
Charles STAUFFER - Berkeley CA, US
Heinz WOLF - Hackettstown NJ, US
Oliver STAUFFER - Tuckahoe NY, US
  • International Classification:
    G01M 3/40
  • Abstract:
A method and device for determining the existence of a leak in a package includes generating an AC high voltage with DC high voltage offset in a circuit. A package is placed between an inspection electrode and a detection electrode, which are located within the circuit. The inspection electrode applies the AC high voltage with the DC high voltage offset to the package. Current flow through the package is then detected by the detection electrode. A detection board then processes the current flow and sends the processed signal to a programmable logic controller which determines if a leak is present in the package. If a leak is present, a signal is sent to a display to notify a user.
