  • US Patent:
    55384340, Jul 23, 1996
  • Filed:

  • Assignee:
The Whitaker Corporation - Wilmington DE
  • International Classification:
    H01R 2900
  • US Classification:
    439188
  • Abstract:
Invention relates to a high performance electrical data connector of the type which may be mated with a like connector. The connector comprises an insulative housing having a connector mating face and a conductor receiving face, a floor extending between the faces and a pair of upstanding side walls, plural contact terminals upstanding from the floor intermediate the mating face and the conductor receiving face. The plural contact terminals comprise a conductor receiving portion, a base portion, and a resilient tongue portion reversely bent from the base portion and extending toward the connector mating face. An important feature hereof is the provision of an insulative member integrally molded between the side walls and overlying at least part of each resilient tongue portion, where the insulative member includes staggered plural through slots. Each slot contains a formed shorting assembly consisting of a U-shaped configured, oxide resistant wire having a circular cross section, where the assembly comprises a base portion and a pair of arms angularly extending therefrom, and each arm terminates in an end portion adapted to contact one resilient tongue portion, of a preselected pair of terminals, when the connector is in an unmated condition. By the use of the specially configured, oxide resistant shorting assembly, the skin effect and other factors affecting insertion loss are reduced resulting in improved performance.

  • US Patent:
    43244505, Apr 13, 1982
  • Filed:
    Mar 5, 1980
  • Appl. No.:
    6/127282
  • Inventors:
    Lawrence P. Weisenburger - Winston-Salem NC
    Henry L. Delguidice - Winston-Salem NC
  • Assignee:
    AMP Inc. - Harrisburg PA
  • International Classification:
    H01R 424
  • US Classification:
    339 97R
  • Abstract:
A single metal blank is stamped and formed to provide an electrical terminal which includes sets of jaws which are closed toward one another to penetrate through insulation of a wire conductor and to grippingly engage the conductor. The jaws are closed readily by a pair of pliers. The terminal may be applied as a tap-off along one of a pair of wire connectors without disturbing the other conductor.
  • Retention Feature For Printed Circuit Board Mounted Connectors

  • US Patent:
    47214732, Jan 26, 1988
  • Filed:
    Nov 17, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/932072
  • Inventors:
    Henry L. DelGuidice - Winston-Salem NC
Roger J. Flaherty - Greensboro NC
  • Assignee:
    AMP Incorporated - Harrisburg PA
  • International Classification:
    H01R 909
  • US Classification:
    439 79
  • Abstract:
An electrical connector which has a plurality of electrical contacts for interconnecting a plurality of data or communication lines is mountable to a printed circuit board and interconnectable to a plurality of electical traces thereon. The connector includes a front mating portion which is connectable to a matable connector, and a right angled portion, including a plurality of terminals, the right angled portion being mountable to a printed circuit board and the terminals being interconnectable to printed circuit board through holes. The connector further comprises a retention member which securely affixes the connector to the printed circuit board prior to soldering of the connector to the printed circuit board, and which provides a cylindrical soldering interface for mechanical stability of the connector to the printed circuit board.
  • Wire Management System

  • US Patent:
    50738410, Dec 17, 1991
  • Filed:
    Feb 7, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/476202
  • Inventors:
    Henry L. DelGuidice - Winston-Salem NC
    George H. Foster - Winston-Salem NC
Michael G. Warren - North Wilkesboro NC
  • Assignee:
    AMP Incorporated - Harrisburg PA
  • International Classification:
    H02B 120
  • US Classification:
    361428
  • Abstract:
A wire management system is shown for systems such as cross-connect panels where the system includes a channel shaped member which has flexible fingers as part of the channel walls. This channel shaped member is inserted into a through hole of a panel and retained thereto via brackets which mount to the ends of the panels. The brackets also allow the channel shaped member to retract out of the panel to a position where cables to be managed can be inserted through the front of the panel, and is insertable into the panel to a position where the cables can be inserted from the rear of the panel.
