The present invention relates to the silanization or surface treatment of minerals with alkylsilanes and alkylsilane copolymers. More specifically, the present invention relates to alkylsilane copolymers useful for surface treating pigments or fillers. The alkylsilane copolymers comprise at least two different monomers. The copolymers find particular utility for the surface treatment of white pigments, such as titanium dioxide, for improving the dispersibility and processibility of the pigments when compounded with a polymeric material, in particular, when compounded with polyolefins.
Disclosed herein is a composition comprising: A) a moisture curable polymer selected from the group consisting of silylated polyurethanes, silylated polyethers, and mixtures thereof, and B) a silicone oligomer of the formula: wherein: each R is independently selected from the group consisting of B, R , âOR , R , and R ; B is an organosilyl functional group bridged to the Si atom of the siloxane oligomer backbone by a SiâC bond; each R is independently a saturated or aromatic hydrocarbon group of 1 to 16 carbon atoms; each R is independently a group as defined for R or an acyl group; each R is independently a monovalent organic group containing an aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbon group; each R is a monovalent organic group linked to the Si atom of the siloxane oligomer backbone by a SiâC bond that does not include an aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbon group and that has thereon one or more members selected from the group consisting of ether polysulfide, ester, polyester, carbamate, polyurethane, isocyanurate, thioether, blocked mercaptan, amide, cyano, and oximato groups; with the provisos that at least one R is a B, at least one quarter of all R groups are âOR , and at least one silicon atom of the oligomer has an R group thereon; m is 2 to 10; n is 0 to 20; o is 0 to 20; and p is 0 to 10.
