An ultrasound array imaging system ( ) and method for improving beamforming quality and ultimately for improving an ultrasound image are disclosed. The ultrasound array imaging system ( ) includes a transducer ( ), a first beamformer ( ), a second beamformer ( ) and a comparator ( ). The first beamformer ( ) receives a first electronic echo signal from the transducer ( ) and produces a first apodized beam signal in accordance with a first beamforming apodization function. The second beamformer ( ) receives the same electronic echo signal from the transducer ( ) and produces a second apodized beam signal in accordance with a second beamforming apodization function. The first and second apodized beam signals are compared in the comparator ( ) which then combines the first and second apodized beam signals to create a combined apodized beam signal for producing an image that has its lateral and contrast resolution simultaneously optimized.

Abstract:
An image processing system according to an implementation of the invention includes a plurality of signal processing modules ( ) inline in a data stream receiving signals. The signal processing modules include input multiplexers ( ) adapted to control an order of or bypassing of processing by the signal processing modules. The signal processing modules may be implemented as hardware-based, nonlinear signal processing modules, such as log compress, decimation, compounding, blending, edge enhancement, automatic gain control, BHNS, lateral, or persistence filters.

Abstract:
A method and system of performing postfiltering in the frequency domain to improve the quality of a speech signal, especially for synthesized speech resulting from codecs of low bit-rate, is provided. The method comprises LPC tilt computation and compensation methods and modules, a formant filter gain computation method and module, and an anti-aliasing method and module. The formant filter gain calculation employs an LPC representation, an all-pole modeling, a non-linear transformation and a phase computation. The LPC used for deriving the postfilter may be transmitted from an encoder or may be estimated from a synthesized or other speech signal in a decoder or receiver. The invention may be implemented in a linked decoder and encoder. A separate LPC evaluation unit that is responsible for processing and or deriving the LPC may be implemented within the invention.
