Abstract:The present invention relates generally to an improved process for providing uniform step coverage on a substrate and planarization of metal layers to form continuous, void-free contacts or vias in sub-half micron applications. In one aspect of the invention, a refractory layer is deposited onto a substrate having high aspect ratio contacts or vias formed thereon. A CVD metal layer is then deposited onto the refractory layer at low temperatures to provide a conformal wetting layer for a PVD metal. Next, a PVD metal is deposited onto the previously formed CVD metal layer at a temperature below that of the melting point temperature of the metal. The resulting CVD/PVD metal layer is substantially void-free. The metallization process is preferably carried out in an integrated processing system that includes both a PVD and CVD processing chamber so that once the substrate is introduced into a vacuum environment, the metallization of the vias and contacts occurs without the formation of an oxide layer over the CVD Al layer.

Abstract:Methods and apparatus for implementing an atomic monitor wait operation are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a computer-implemented method for implementing an atomic monitor wait operation includes creating a semaphore specific to a first thread. The semaphore is then placed in a wait queue associated with an object whose object lock is owned by the first thread in order to, in one implementation, preserve queue order. The first thread then exits a monitor associated with the object by, in one embodiment, releasing the object lock. The first thread then suspends execution until the semaphore receives notification that the object lock is available.

Abstract:The present invention provides an improved method and apparatus to measure p-n junction device temperature by testing a device with M-Levels of applied collector current, sensing changes in output characteristics, and calculating the device current offset error and leakage current error due to parasitic parallel resistance where the leakage current error due to parasitic parallel resistance may be treated and eliminated as current offset error. Application of M levels of excitation values, where M is greater than or equal to four, eliminates device series parasitic effects, comprised of voltage offset and a series parasitic resistance, and parallel parasitic effects, comprised of current offset error and leakage current error due to parasitic parallel resistance, from temperature measurements. Since the operating characteristics of the device are temperature dependent, excitation levels applied and output values observed are used to determine junction temperature of the device free of series and parallel parasitic effects.

Abstract:A fuzzy logic based digital color transition improvement method and apparatus for increasing color sharpness by replacing the slow transition color edges with edges that have steeper rising and falling times. Fuzzy logic used here to decide where the transition happens and how to enhance the signal when transition happens.
