Abstract:

A system and method for delivering content in a movie trailer and a system for implementing the same. The method includes receiving a request to deliver a shell application having a configuration dependent on a selected movie. Appropriate multi-media content and a scrubber bar are determined at a configuration server for the selected movie. Both the multi-media content and the scrubber bar are configured for the selected movie. The scrubber bar includes a timeline that is associated with the multi-media content from which progress through the multi-media content can be tracked. The scrubber bar includes at least one Q-point located within the time line. The shell application that is configured to include the multi-media content and the scrubber bar is then delivered to the client device.

A method of encoding a digital video sequence is provided that includes disabling quarter-pel motion compensation for a first sequence of blocks in the digital video sequence, computing an average half-pel cost for the first sequence of blocks, computing an average quarter-pel cost for the first sequence of blocks, and enabling quarter-pel motion compensation for a second sequence of blocks in the digital video sequence based on a comparison of the average half-pel cost and the average quarter-pel cost.

Abstract:

A method of encoding a coding unit of a digital video sequence is provided that includes computing a brightness measure for each region in a plurality of regions in the coding unit, wherein the brightness measure indicates a relative brightness between the region in the coding unit and a corresponding region in a reference coding unit, determining a number of regions in the plurality of regions with significant brightness change by comparing each brightness measure to a region brightness change threshold, detecting whether there is global brightness change in the coding unit by comparing the number of regions to a global brightness threshold, and when global brightness change is detected, computing weighted prediction factors to be used for weighted prediction in encoding the coding unit.

Abstract:

Iterative grid-pattern motion search may be performed for each macroblock of a frame of video data. A first motion search is performed from an initial best search point on a set of search points in the prior frame corresponding to a sub-set of pels within the macroblock to determine a best search point. Additional motion searches are performed iteratively, wherein each motion search is on a set of search points in the prior frame centered around a best search point determined in a preceding motion search. The motion vector for the macroblock is then estimated using a best search point determined in a final motion search iteration. A current best search point may be modified prior to performing an additional motion search by shifting to an adjacent search point in a direction indicated by the current best search point.
