Abstract:

A system and method for predicting future interference power in packet-switched networks is disclosed, allowing improved performance in such networks via optimized link adaptation and power control. In an embodiment for use in a cellular network, Kalman filtering can be used to provide the interference estimation through identification of the number of active co-channel interferers in the cellular networks and correlation of the interference power with the number of active interferers. A two-dimensional Kalman filter can be used to exploit that correlation to enhance prediction accuracy. In an alternative embodiment, a one-dimensional Kalman filter can be used where the number of active interferers is not considered.

Interference is reduced with a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system having a set of basestations including a first basestation and a second basestation is reduced. Signals associated with the first basestation having its own antenna elements are received. The first basestation is associated with its own mobile stations each having their own antenna elements. Each signal associated with the first basestation is uniquely associated with a mobile station associated with the first basestation. Signals associated with the second basestation having its own antenna elements are received. The second basestation is associated with its own mobile stations each having their own antenna elements. Each signal associated with the second basestation is uniquely associated with a mobile station associated with the second basestation. Signals associated with the first basestation are jointly detected in conjunction with the signals associated with the second basestation to produce a set of detected signals.

Abstract:

An apparatus for performance improvement of a digital wireless receiver comprises a processing circuit for processing a plurality of received signals and providing a processed signal, wherein a plurality of weights is applied to the plurality of received signals producing a plurality of weighted received signals. Abstract:

An optical communication network includes at least one single-mode fiber, referred to as a "primary fiber," for transmission between a central office and a distribution node, and at least one multiplicity of single-mode fibers, referred to as "distribution fibers," for transmission between the distribution node and a multiplicity of optical network units (ONUs). Transmissions are exchanged between the primary and distribution fibers via at least one optical coupler located at the distribution node. The network is passive in the sense that all monitoring of the transmission media and the ONUs can be performed at the central office, without active intervention at remote locations. The network includes a monitor and a multiplicity of bypass lines by means of which at least a portion of inbound signals from the distribution fibers are transmitted to the monitor without passing through the optical coupler at the distribution node.
