Abstract:

A shipping box or platform having a bottom with rails extending outwardly from the sides thereof adjacent the bottom is locked down onto the floor of an aircraft by a pair of spaced apart elongated locking members mounted on the floor. The distance between the locking members limits the width of the bottom of the shipping box or platform. In order to increase the size of the box or platform, the side walls extend outwardly beyond the width of the bottom. The lockdown rails are thus recessed beneath the side walls of the box or platform.

Abstract:

A shipping pallet comprises a rectangular planar base member having two opposing ends and two opposing sides. Pivotally connected to one of the ends of the base member is a handle member that is adapted to be pivoted from a stored position, wherein the handle member is folded on top of the base member, to an operative position, wherein the handle member extends upwardly from the base member. The under surface of the base member includes a pair of elongated spaced apart pockets that extend the length of the base member on either side of the center line thereof. An elongated rail is associated with each of the pockets. Hydraulic rams or other power devices move the rails between a first position wherein they are within the pockets so that the planar base member of the pallet rests directly on a support surface and a second position where the rails extend downwardly to support the pallet thereon. The pallets and handle members are so configured and dimensioned so that the handle fits between the elongated rails of the pallet positioned directly above or within a recess of that pallet so as not to interfere with the ability to stack a plurality of pallets on top of each other.

Abstract:

An apparatus which comprises two compositions in contact with one another is described. The first composition comprises poly(1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol terephthalate) and a minor amount of poly(1,4-butylene terephthalate), while the second composition comprises an organic polymeric material. The use of the first composition allows for better adhesion between the two compositions. A process for making such an apparatus by first forming a shaped part from the first composition and then contacting that shaped part with the second composition is also described. The apparatus may be used to encapsulate electrical and electronic parts, and for other uses.

Abstract:

The present invention generally concerns the use of Bragg optical fibers in chirped pulse amplification systems for the production of high-pulse-energy ultrashort optical pulses. A gas-core Bragg optical fiber waveguide can be advantageously used in such systems to stretch the duration of pulses so that they can be amplified, and/or Bragg fibers can be used to compress optical signals into much shorter duration pulses after they have been amplified. Bragg fibers can also function as near-zero-dispersion delay lines in amplifier sections.

Abstract:

Optical systems configured for both changing the length of a laser pulse and operating as an optical isolator are disclosed. In some embodiments, optical isolation is achieve contemporaneously with laser pulse expansion or compression by using a grating based compressor or expander as one of the polarization elements of the optical isolator. In some embodiments, optical isolation is achieved contemporaneously with laser pulse expansion or compression by using a mode converter and a Bragg fiber as one of the polarization elements of the optical isolator. Abstract:

A method is disclosed for the treatment of single particle iron-containing syngas (synthes. s gas) conversion catalysts comprising iron, a crystalline acidic aluminosilicate zeolite having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 12, a pore size greater than about 5 Angstrom units and a constraint index of about 1-12 and a matrix. The catalyst does not contain promoters and the treatment is applicable to either the regeneration of said spent single particle iron-containing catalyst or for the initial activation of fresh catalyst. The treatment involves air oxidation, hydrogen reduction, followed by a second air oxidation and contact of the iron-containing single particle catalyst with syngas prior to its use for the catalytic conversion of said syngas. The single particle iron-containing catalysts are prepared from a water insoluble organic iron compound.
