Abstract:

A new and improved tube or catheter for administrating or withdrawing a substance from the human body which can be temporarily attached to the tissue site. The catheter consists of a dual lumen, side-by-side, tube. One lumen is used to administer or withdraw a substance. The second lumen contains an attachment means consisting of a loop of filament extending beyond the both ends of the lumen in the second tube. During use the surgeon fixes a suture at the tissue site and ties the suture around the filament loop extending from the distal end of the second tube. The surgeon then grasps the proximal end of the filament and slides the catheter over the filament and the suture until it rests against the tissue attachment site. The filament or suture is then tied around the proximal end of the tube to hold the catheter in place. To remove the catheter, the surgeon cuts the suture where tied to the proximal end of the tube, pulls off the catheter, and slides the suture out of the tissue.

Abstract:

An infusion catheter with an adjustable flow contains a flow restrictor tube located in the lumen of the catheter. The flow rate through the infusion catheter can be adjusted by reducing the length of the flow restrictor tube and infusion catheter assembly.

Abstract:

A micro-bore catheter for use with an infusion pump wherein the micro-bore lumen of the catheter acts as an adjustable flow restricting element. The flow rate through the catheter can be increased proportionally by trimming the length of the catheter. One end of the catheter is attached to a needle for insertion of the catheter into the elastomeric septum of a drug infusion pump.

Abstract:

An infusion pump for infusing drugs or other fluids into the body. The pump consists of two chambers. The storage chamber holds a large volume of drug at a variable and elevated pressure, which exceeds the preselected outflow pressure. The outflow chamber holds a smaller volume of drug at a constant outflow pressure. A moveable diaphragm attached to a valve controls the entry of the drug from the storage chamber into the outflow chamber. The pressure of the drug in the outflow chamber is determined by the forces applied to the diaphragm. The drug from the outflow chamber flows through a flow restrictor and catheter into the patient at a constant flow rate.

Abstract:

A collagen corneal shield for placement on the outer surface of the eye for protection of the eye, for delivery of drugs to the eye, or for both protection and drug delivery to the eye, functions without obstructing vision. The shield has a first, central portion comprising non-crosslinked collagen capable of rapid decomposition in the presence of enzymes in the tears, and a second portion comprising crosslinked collagen which decomposes slowly in the presence of enzymes in the tears so that it remains on the eye for a period of time longer than the first portion. The first portion of the shield covers the central portion of the cornea and the second portion of the shield extends outward from the first portion. As a result of decomposition of the first portion the corneal shield becomes a ring or washer shape around the central portion and at least a portion of the cornea is no longer covered by the shield so that vision is not obstructed. The corneal shield can also be contoured so that it has one or more base curve radii selected to provide retention of the shield on the eye.

Abstract:

A ring for dilating a pupil during an ophthalmic procedure includes a series of spaced supports for engaging an iris perimeter. The supports are plate elements which form an open pocket directed outwardly for engaging the iris. The sides of the ring form a primary plane, and the plates are located in respective planes above and below the primary plane. The outer periphery of the top and bottom plates forms a lip feature which is the opening to the pocket which retains the iris.
