Abstract:
A coated multi-filament reinforcing carbon yarn is encapsulated with a rubber composition. The rubber composition comprises resorcinol-formaldehyde reaction product, a vinylpyridine-styrene butadiene terpolymer, an acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer and urea.
A process for adhering synthetic textile fibers to sulfur vulcanizable rubbers comprising the steps of (I) immersing the fibers in an aqueous solution which is comprised of (a) 1% to 4% by weight oxazoline polymer, (b) 0% to 4% alkylene glycol monoether and (c) 92% to 99% water to produce coated fibers; (II) drying the coated fibers to produce subcoated fibers; (III) subjecting the subcoated fibers to an RFL adhesive dip to produce dipped fibers; (IV) drying the dipped fibers to produce dried dipped fibers; (V) placing the dried dipped fibers in contact with a sulfur vulcanizable rubber; and (VI) curing the sulfur vulcanizable rubber while it is in contact with the dried dipped fibers. Also provided is a composite article made using the process.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a tire having at least one reinforcing ply in the carcass, belt, or bead region of the tire. The reinforcing ply is comprised of a blended fiber cord. The cords, in combination with a preferred cure temperature adhesive, achieve a high degree of thermal stability allowing for the use of such cords in various reinforcing plies for a pneumatic tire and for preferred use for such cords in areas of the tire subject to high temperatures either in curing or performance.
The present invention is directed to a composite material comprising a vulcanizable polychloroprene rubber composition and textile fibers, the fibers having distributed over surface portions thereof an adhesive comprising a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and a copolymer of from about 1 weight percent to about 10 weight percent 2,3-dichloro-1,3-butadiene and from about 90 weight percent to about 99 weight percent chloroprene.

Abstract:
One aspect of the invention is directed to a rubber cure system that includes: an amine-free accelerator; a bismaleimide; and an alkylphenol disulfide. Another aspect of the invention is directed to a rubber composition including: at least one sulfur-vulcanizable elastomer containing olefinic unsaturation; an amine-free accelerator; a bismaleimide; and an alkylphenol disulfide. In a further aspect, the invention includes a rubber composition in the form of a product. If desired, the product may include a reinforcing cord comprising a polyester. Examples of products of the invention include a tire ply, a tire belt, a tire overlay, a pneumatic tire, an airspring, a conveyor belt, a hose, and a power transmission belt.
Polychloprene Composite Having Adhesive With Copolymer Of Polychloroprene And Dichlorobutadiene

Abstract:
A nozzle provides plasma polymerization. The nozzle includes a cylindrical body having a longitudinal axis, a coaxial conical inlet for receiving plasma, a radial inlet for receiving an organic precursor, a coaxial core outlet for receiving plasma from the coaxial conical inlet, and a coaxial toroidal outlet for receiving the organic precursor from the radial inlet. Outer sidewalls of the toroidal outlet extend to a bottom, outlet end of the nozzle. Inner sidewalls of the toroidal outlet do not extend all the way to the bottom end of the nozzle thereby providing partial mixing of the plasma and the organic precursor prior to deposition of polymer on to a surface.
