An aluminum metal-core weld wire, the sheath being aluminum, the metal-core having a composition that contains primarily metallic alloying powders e. g. Manganese nitride and/or barium. Abstract:

According to one aspect of the present technique a novel ceramic contact tip extension is featured. The ceramic extension may comprise a zirconium-based material. According to another aspect of the present invention, a novel wire-feed welding system is featured. The welding system may feature an electrical power source, a wire-feeder having a wire electrically coupleable to the electric power source, and a welding implement adapted to receive a tubular metal wire from the wire-feeder. The welding implement has a contact tip and a contact tip extension. According to yet another aspect of the present technique, a method for protecting a contact tip is feature. The method comprises thermally insulating the contact tip.

Abstract:

A weld wire of the present invention comprises a steel sheath encapsulating a fluxed core having a combination of fluxing compounds and alloying elements. The fluxing compounds comprise up to 2% Wt of fluoride compounds and up to 49% Wt of oxide compounds. The alloying elements comprise Mn, Ni, Co, Ti and up to about 0.98% Wt of C. The amount of Co is sufficient to produce a ferrite-bainite weld metal morphology of a resulting weld. A yield strength of the resulting weld was measured from about 95 ksi to about 111 ksi.

Abstract:

A metal-core weld wire usable for gas shielded arc welding gapless joints on low carbon and low alloy galvanized and galvanealed steels. The metal-core weld wire includes a low carbon steel sheath surrounding a core composition. In one embodiment, the low carbon steel sheath includes, by total weight of the metal-core weld wire, between approximately 0. 01-0. 03% C, and the core composition includes, by total weight of the metal-core weld wire, between approximately 0. 05-0. 20% Ti, between approximately 0. 05-1. 00% Nb, Fe powder, and Mn to the extent that the metal-core weld wire includes between approximately 0. 1-1. 0% Mn wherein the metal-core weld wire includes between approximately 0. 1-1. 0% Si. The core composition is, by total weight of the metal-core weld wire, between approximately 0. 001-12. 0%. The metal-core weld wire provides, at weld rates up to 150 cm/min, reduced arc ionization potential and spatter, and improved arc stability and shielding.
