Abstract:

An igniter composition for a gas generator comprises a stoichiometric comation of pyrotechnic metal selected from the group consisting of beryllium, boron, lithium, sodium, titanium, magnesium, aluminum and alloys and mixtures thereof and one or more halogenated polymers; and fumed colloidal silica in an amount from about 0. 5 to about 2. 5 percent of the total composition weight.

Abstract:

The present invention is a lead-free pyrotechnic composition comprising from about 60 percent by weight to about 80 percent by weight iodine pentoxide and from about 15 percent by weight to about 35 percent by weight of a solid-powder fuel. The solid-powder fuel may normally be selected from aluminum, magnesium, or a combination thereof. Depending upon the potential use for the lead-free pyrotechnic composition of the present invention, the composition may also include from about 4 to 10 percent by weight of a stabilizer that neutralizes any iodic acid formed by the iodine pentoxide, from about 3 to 5 percent by weight of a binder, or from about 5 to 15 percent by weight of a coloring agent. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the aluminum will comprise aluminum flake having a size ranging from about nanometers to about 100 nanometers.

A novel pyrotechnic delay composition for use in metal delay fuse cartridges, including as its primary constituent Si—Al—FeOprepared from powdered form. The delay composition yields a progressive burning zone and burns substantially gas-free, is safe to handle, is resistant to moisture and degradation over time, can be incorporated within the confines of existing detonator shells, and poses no environmental hazards.

Abstract:

A coating removal machine or carriage (22) for a pipe (10) has an enclosed housing (44, 46, 48, 50) extending about front and rear tool carriers (74, 76) which rotate in opposite directions about the pipe (10) and have coating removal tools (116, 118, 120) for removing the coating material from the pipe (10). The removed coating material (12) is collected in removable bags (66) beneath the machine (22) for disposal at a separate remote disposal site. A dust collector (28) has a vacuum line (32) extending to the enclosed housing (44, 46, 48, 50) to remove minute coating particles which are suspended in air or air borne. One embodiment (FIGS. 10 and 11) is provided for a fixed installation. Another embodiment (FIGS. 13-15) includes water under pressure discharged from nozzles (63B) to remove the coated material (12) from the pipe (10).

Abstract:

An inflation device including a pressure tank having stored therein a quantity of inflation gas under pressure, the pressure tank including a burst disk which prevents egress of the inflation gas from the tank, a sleeve member extending in substantially axial alignment with the burst disk, a piston having a first end portion slidably received in the sleeve member and having a second end portion which includes a cutting edge thereon for puncturing the burst disk. A first pyrotechnic material is positioned adjacent the first end portion of the piston, and a second pyrotechnic material is positioned externally of the sleeve member. Upon ignition of the first pyrotechnic material, a first combustion gas is produced which drives the piston to rupture the burst disk and permit the egress of the stored inflation gas. The sleeve member and the piston member are constructed to shield the second pyrotechnic material from the first combustion gas until after the piston has moved a predetermined distance and the burst disk has been ruptured. Upon the piston moving the predetermined distance a passage is created which enables the first combustion gas to contact and ignite the second pyrotechnic material to produce a second combustion gas which is operable to increase the temperature of the inflation gas, thereby providing an inflation device which has a delay between the release of the stored inflation gas and the heating thereof.

Abstract:

A spray gun formed with an elongate housing, with an outlet nozzle directed from the housing cooperative from a housing handle reservoir and operative through a trigger plate pivotally mounted relative to the housing. The trigger plate includes spaced end walls, with "U" shaped guard members mounted to the end walls. A "U" shaped guard member includes first and second leg plates that are parallel relative to one another and extend through respective first and second enclosed slots between the "U" shaped guards and the first and second end walls. The leg plates include spaced abutments for cooperation with the guards, with the "U" shaped guard member including an interposed spring between the guard member and the handle reservoir to bias the abutments in cooperation with the "U" shaped guards. Manual depression of the guard member against the spring displaces the abutments relative to the "U" shaped permitting operation and pivotment of the trigger plate to effect operation of the spray gun.

A carriage (28-28B) has rollers (58-58B) supported on the outer surface of a pipeline (10) for movement therealong in the cleaning operation for the pipeline. In other embodiments (FIGS. 8-10 and FIGS. 11-12) fixed U-shaped yokes (61A, 61B) are positioned alongside pipeline (10) and support the nozzle assembly (68A, 68B) for oscillation.
