Abstract:

A harmonic oscillator and motion detection system for use in measuring dynamic elastic constants of rock material samples includes a pair of masses vertically suspended from a support position by a pair of wires. At least one mass is driven by a permanent magnet with the driving coil positioned in the air gap to the magnet. The rock sample is horizontally positioned between the pair of masses such that the rock sample acts as a spring element connecting the masses, thereby forming the simple harmonic oscillator. The motion detection system includes a pair of coil-magnets mounted to each mass for use in determining the amplitude and phase of the motion of the pair of masses.

Abstract:

A spoonable tomato product and method of making the same comprising a water-in-oil emulsion component and a natural pulpy tomato solids component wherein said components are in amounts proportioned to provide a spoonable product which is stable during use and storage. The emulsion component contains at least about 60% w/w edible oil and the tomato component contains at least about 75% w/w natural pulpy tomato solids. The natural tomato solids impart a natural grainy, pulpy texture to the spoonable product. The emulsion component formulates a water-in-oil emulsion that imparts a spoonable consistency having the characteristics and stability similar to mayonnaise. These spoonable tomato products may be stored and used for an appreciable amount of time without experiencing rapid biodegradation or serious putrefaction. Thus, these spoonable tomato products are especially suitable for use in food products for the fast food market. Also, novel methods for preparing a spoonable tomato product consisting of a natural pulpy tomato solids component and a water-in-oil component are disclosed.

Abstract:

A method of logging a wellbore to identify oil, gas and water zones in a hydrocarbon-bearing formation that is characterized by acoustic velocities which are maximum when saturated with oil, minimum when saturated with water and intermediate when saturated with gas. The formation is logged with a sonic logging system utilizing a frequency within the range of 0. 1 to 10 KHz and logged with a lithologic logging system to account for variations in lithology on the sonic log. Thereafter the sonic log is compared with the known acoustic velocity characteristic of the hydrocarbon-bearing formation to identify the oil, gas and water zones therein.

A novel method is disclosed for using the resonance behavior of reservoir sand to distinguish between oil-rich, gas-rich and water-rich zones. A wellbore is logged, as for example with a long spaced acoustic logging tool, to obtain data which are then interpreted to determine the damping of the acoustic signal in one sand versus another, or in that sand versus a reference sand having similar resonance characteristics.

Abstract:

In a well drilling system, a drill bit is raised or lowered through formations surrounding a borehole in response to the movement of a cable onto and off of a drawworks drum. Magnetic markings are affixed to the drum, and a pair of sensors detect rotational movement of the magnetic markings as the drum rotates to take in or pay out the cable. These sensors provide signals indicating both the direction and magnitude of drum rotation. These signals are digitized and selectively gated to operate a bidirectional counter whose count output is recorded as a function of time to provide a depth recording indicating penetration of the drill bit through the formations surrounding the borehole.
