Abstract:

A pivot corner adapted for operative engagement with a sash balance brake assembly of a pivotable sash window is disclosed. The pivot corner comprises a housing having an axial bore and a pivot pin. The pivot pin has a first portion disposed within the bore and a second portion extending outwardly therefrom and adapted for operative engagement with the brake assembly. The axial bore and the first pin portion are complementarily octagonal in cross-section. The first pin portion has a cross-section sufficiently smaller than the cross-section of the axial bore to permit non-destructive rotation of the pin relative to the housing upon application of a predetermined torque.

Abstract:

A method of disinfecting medical materials, which comprises heating medical materials and exposing the medical materials to gamma radiation, is provided. One method of heating is the application of radio-frequency waves. The medical materials are subjected to radio-frequency waves for at least approximately 5 minutes and to gamma radiation measuring at least approximately 0. 25 Mrads. When the starting material consists of pre-sorted medical or veterinary waste, the method further comprises shredding the irradiated waste and recycling the shredded waste.

Abstract:

A tilt latch (10) for a sash window (12) has a bolt stop. The sash window (12) is disposed within opposed guide rails (16) on a master frame (14). The sash window (12) is comprised of a top sash rail (20), a base (22) and two stiles (24,26) connected together at their extremities. The tilt-latch (10) is adapted for releasably securing the sash window (12) to the master frame (14). The tilt-latch (10) is comprised of a housing (42) adapted to be supported by the top rail (20). The housing (42) has an outward end opening (44). A latch bolt (46) is disposed within the housing (42) and has a nose adapted for engaging a respective one of the guide rails (16). A protrusion (80) is located either on the latch bolt (46) or the housing (42) and a lock wall (86) is located either on the housing (42) or the latch bolt (46). The protrusion (80) has a stop surface (84) and is moveable between a first position defining a prevent position (94) wherein the stop surface (84) is adapted to abut the lock wall (86) to prevent retraction of the latch bolt (46) into the housing (42), and a second position defining a deflected position (96) wherein the stop surface (84) does not abut the lock wall (86) to allow retraction of the latch bolt (46) into the housing (42). The protrusion (80) is biased to the prevent position.
