Volunteer Spotlight featuring Jane Richardson. Nationwide, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has some of the most dedicated volunteers a nonprofit could ever ask for. One of those volunteers is Jane Richardson of Erie, PA. Without fail, Jane has volunteered for Country 98 WXTA’s Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon for all 14 years that the event has taken place. Over the 14 years, she has even brought her two children, Peter and JJ with her. As do many St. Jude volunteers, Jane has had a life-long connection to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—in fact, her connection stems farther back than even her own existence! Before Jane was born, her mother gave birth to three beautiful sons. As her mother was pregnant for the fourth time, she prayed to St. Jude as the patron saint of hopeless causes for the birth of a baby girl. When her mother was blessed with a girl, she vowed to honor St. Jude by naming her only daughter Jane Jude. Thus, since her birth, Jane has shown interested in the work of Danny Thomas and the Hospital by continuously volunteering for the organization. Years later in her adult life, Jane found herself in a similar situation as her mother. After giving birth to her son, Jane miscarried her second child and began praying to St. Jude for a happy and healthy baby. Nine months later, Joan Jude—“JJ”—was brought into the world. “I owe it to St. Jude not only for my existence in this world but also for my daughters’,” Jane admits. It is passionate volunteers like Jane that help keep the St. Jude mission alive, and we are so very grateful to her! www.stjude.org/volunteers
