Abstract:

An apparatus which provides a portable means for a caregiver with limited strength to easily weigh patients in bed who are, unable or unwilling to get out of bed, or very heavy and too large for conventional scales. It works on low beds with very little underside clearance, beds without wheels, and in rooms with limited space. The apparatus includes a weight readout indicator and several lightweight weight sensing lifting assemblies each of which having a vertically adjustable cam type bed frame lifter and a load cell. When the bed frame lifter is placed under a bed frame, adjusted up to the underside of the frame, and rotated to its thickest point, a portion of the bed is lifted. This is repeated until the entire bed is lifted. The weight of the bed on the lifters induces the load cells sending a signal to the weight readout indicator.

Abstract:

A New and improved stabilizer for use in conjunction with a wheelchair is disclosed. The device incorporates a multi part lever mechanism that is activated when no patient is seated on the seat area of the wheelchair, when the patient is preparing (or being assisted) to sit on the seat area and the patients weight is not fully pressing on the seat area, or the patient is getting up (or being assisted) from the seat area of the wheelchair and the patients weight pushing on the seat area is being reduced. The lever mechanism is deactivated when the seat area of the wheelchair is depressed by the patients weight. When the lever mechanism is activated a plurality of posts with tips that include friction means are pressed against the ground preventing the wheelchair from freely rolling in a backward direction.

Abstract:

A collar with a relieved area () strategically placed in-between the upper and lower wheelchair leg-rest attachments () so a leg-rest can still be removed and installed and where the leg-rest locking arm () can lock into place unimpeded. A second collar () attached directly below the lower wheelchair leg-rest attachment (). Both collars ( and ) are locked into place using flat-head screws (). Collars ( and ) are of sufficient size to extend horizontally beyond the typically exposed mainframe leg-rest attachments (). When installed at both leg-rest attachment areas () the invention protects a wheelchair user from a laceration injury.
