Abstract:

A method and apparatus for initiating a combustive reaction in a slurry fuel. A transfer device optically interconnects an optical energy source with a combustion chamber containing slurry fuel and air. The optical energy source generates an output for interacting with the slurry fuel and air mixture to create a combustive reaction. In a first preferred embodiment, the optical energy source generates an excitation pulse having a high power leading edge and low power trailing edge. In a second preferred embodiment the optical energy source generates a first and second excitation pulse, the first excitation pulse having higher power than the second excitation pulse.

Abstract:

A spread polarization transmitter for transmitting at least one light signal comprises a spread-spectrum communication apparatus and a polarization modulator. The spread-spectrum communication apparatus modulates the at least one light signal according to a spread-spectrum modulation technique. The polarization modulator comprises a polarizer and a magnetic bubble waveguide. The polarizer is capable of polarizing the at least one spread-spectrum modulated light signal in a polarized direction. And the magnetic bubble waveguide, which is configured in accordance with a pseudo-random polarization code sequence such that the plurality of magnetic bubble domains assume a time varying position representative of the pseudo-random polarization code sequence, is capable of receiving at least one polarized, spread-spectrum modulated light signal. Thereafter, the magnetic bubble waveguide is capable of at least partially rotating the polarized, spread-spectrum modulated light signals by a predetermined angle from the polarized direction during transmission therethrough to create spread polarization modulated light signals.

A wavefront correction system using a dual frequency liquid crystal spatial light modulator to vary phase relationships of a wavefront is disclosed. A light beam from the dual frequency liquid crystal spatial light modulator can be split into a reference beam and a plurality of measurement beams to enhance a speed and/or accuracy of phase measurement. A method and system for aligning a spatial light modulator with respect to an imaging device is disclosed. An image of the spatial light modulator can be formed upon the imaging device and a controller can be used to position optical elements in a manner that effects translation, rotation, and scaling of the image so as to provide desired alignment. Abstract:

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a more robust flat panel display by using the Faraday effect to control light emission from a solid state material so as to form two-dimensional or three-dimensional images. Flux tubes can be configured to define a two dimensional array. Each flux tube is somewhat analogous to a single bubble of a magnetic bubble memory and can define a pixel. At least some aspect of light transmitted through a flux tube can be varied thereby, so as to facilitate the formation of an image.
