Abstract:
A system and method for determining the reliability of at least one communication link between nodes in an ad-hoc communication network. The system and method perform the operations of receiving at a first node data sent by a second node over a link from the second node to the first node, determining a bit error rate (BER) at which the first node received the data, and identifying the link from the second node to the first node as being reliable when a value determined based on at least the BER and, more specifically, an aggregate of the BER and BERs of data received by the first node from the second node over a period of time, meets a desired condition. The data sent by the second node can include routing advertisement data indicating at least one node which is a neighboring node of the second node, or can be any suitable regularly expected message. The data also includes an indication as to the reliability of the link from the first node to the second node based on a measure of at least one previous message, for example, the BER or aggregate BER of at least one routing advertisement, that the second node received from the first node.

Abstract:
A system and method for deploying a network of wireless devices, including mobile terminals, wireless routers and a least one control console, within a three dimensional deployment area such as a building, so that communication, identification and position calculations of personnel, such as firefighters, using the mobile terminals can be achieved regardless of building structure. The wireless routers are deployed in a substantial vertical manner in staircases and elevator shafts of a building of interest, either in advance as part of a safety program or immediately upon arrival of firefighters or other team at the building during an emergency. The system and method according to the embodiment of the present invention described herein uses both TOF and RSSI between the mobile terminals and wireless routers to identify the floor numbers where firefighters are located and to track firefighter movements.
System And Method For A Routing Device To Securely Share Network Data With A Host Utilizing A Hardware Firewall
A system and method for providing the ability to selectively share data in a network routing device with an associated host. The system and method employs a hardware firewall in the routing device which restricts the host such that it can only access areas in shared memory which contains data destined for the host. The routing device CPU notifies the host of pending data and the location of that data in the shared memory. The hardware firewall is also notified of the location in shared memory which the host may access. When the host attempts to read the data, the firewall ensures that only the stated memory area or areas are accessed by the host. Once the data has been read by the host, the firewall is notified to cancel the host's ability to access the shared memory until such time as a new packet destined for the host arrives in the routing device.

Abstract:
A system and method for management of communication links between nodes in a wireless communication network (). The system and method perform the operations of estimating an expected rate of change in the characteristics pertaining to communication over a communication link in the network (), and assigning a value associated with the link based on the expected rate of change. The system and method also adjust the rate of change of the value associated with the link based on the condition of the link.

Abstract:
A system and method for providing geographic location information to of at least one fixed reference device in a wireless network, the method comprising: determining a geographic location of the at least one fixed reference device within an image, such as a Geographic Information System (GIS) image, where the GIS image comprises a plurality of pixels each having an absolute geographic location value associated with it, and where the geographic location of the at least one fixed reference device is defined with respect to the absolute position values associated with at least one pixel that is proximal to an image of the at least one fixed reference device within the GIS image; and providing the determined geographic location information to the at least one fixed reference device.

Abstract:
A registration system for secondary radio systems that use spectrum that is interleaved with spectrum used by primary radio systems may include an interface to communicate with the secondary radio systems over a network. The registration system also may receive a registration request from a requesting one of the secondary radio systems and generate a spectrum certificate for the requesting secondary radio system. The spectrum certificate may contain a channel map identifying available channels that may be used for wireless communications activity of the requesting secondary radio system and may contain, for each available channel, a guidance indicator that identifies relative channel desirability to the requesting secondary radio system.

Abstract:
A map-based system displays a map of spectrum allocation information in a multi-dimensional representation. The system may provide a two-dimensional or three-dimensional area map of a geographic location of interest from an aerial perspective. In another dimension in the elevation direction, allocated spectrum segments may be stacked on the map to provide a representation of spectrum rights allocated in the selected geographical location. Time may provide an additional dimensional aspect to the map. A user may display the spectrum allocation map for a single instant in time, or view a dynamic map that displays the changing spectrum allocation over a time range. A user may also employ search criteria to filter the map display of spectrum allocation information by a specific frequency range, holder/licensee name, channel block, time window, lease or license expiration data, and other criteria.
