Abstract:
An encapsulated insulation composite system for increasing the burn through resistance of an aircraft fuselage includes: an insulation layer of glass fiber or foam insulation and a coating or interleaf barrier layer of a high temperature resistant material and/or a coating or barrier layer of a high temperature resistant material on an outer major surface of the insulation layer of the composite and a film encapsulating the composite. Preferably, the barrier layer or layers include a reflective mineral, such as a reflective mineral containing coating carried on a sheet material. Preferably, the encapsulating film is a polymeric film such as a polyimide film.

Abstract:
A method for cardiac surgical intervention relies on sealing or fusing heart valve leaflets without requiring implanted materials such as sutures or staples. The method provides a forceps having at least one shaft and an end effector assembly attached thereto. The end effector assembly includes a pair of opposing jaw members configured to move from an open, spread position to a closed, grasping position; creating at least one opening in the patient for inserting the forceps therein; inserting through the opening and manipulating jaw members of the forceps to grasp a portion of a first heart valve leaflet and a portion of a second heart valve leaflet therebetween; activating the forceps to close the jaw members about the leaflet portions under a working pressure, applying radiofrequency energy to the jaw members to seal the portion of the first heart valve leaflet to the portion of the second heart valve leaflet.
Insulating Boot For Electrosurgical Forceps With Thermoplastic Clevis
An electrosurgical forceps includes a shaft having a pair of jaw members at a distal end movable about a pivot from a first position disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second position wherein the jaw members are closer to one another for grasping tissue. A movable handle actuates the shaft to move the jaw members relative to one another. One or both jaw members are capable of conducting electrical energy to tissue held therebetween. An insulating boot is disposed on at least a portion of an exterior surface of one or both jaw members about the pivot and at a distal end of the shaft. The insulating boot includes an overmolded thermoplastic clevis disposed on an inner periphery thereof configured to enhance mechanical engagement of the insulating boot with the one or both jaw members and the distal end of the shaft.

A movable handle is included that actuates a drive assembly to move the jaw members relative to one another and at least one of the jaw members is adapted to connect to a source of electrical energy such that the jaw members are capable of conducting energy to tissue held therebetween. A flexible insulating boot is disposed on at least a portion of an exterior surface of one or both jaw members and about the pivot. The flexible boot includes one or more mechanically reinforcing elements operatively coupled thereto that is configured enhance the rigidity of the insulating boot.

Abstract:
A bipolar forceps includes a shaft extending from a housing and includes an end effector assembly at its distal end. The end effector assembly has a pair of jaw members movable between an open position and a closed position. A knife assembly includes a cutter having a generally circular cross-section. The cutter is configured to cut tissue when the jaw members are in the closed position. One or more electrically conductive tissue sealing plates are disposed on each of the jaw members. The tissue sealing plates are adapted to connect to an electrosurgical energy source configured to deliver electrosurgical energy to tissue held between the jaw members to effect a tissue seal. An actuator is operably coupled to the knife assembly and is configured to selectively reciprocate the cutter relative to the jaw members.

Abstract:
A wire organizer is disclosed for organizing and restraining individual wires. The wire organizer includes a wire comb capable of transitioning individual wires from a radial arrangement to a side-by-side arrangement for connection to a series of electrical contacts arranged in a closely spaced relation. A cable cuff is also included and is capable of restraining individual wires against a jacket of the cable. The wire comb and cable cuff may each be loaded axially or longitudinally and may be coupled to one another by a bridge.
