Abstract:

A system to enable communication between a base station controller ( ) within a cellular network ( ), and a wired telephone system ( ) in a wired subscriber loop ( ), wherein the base station controller ( ) is responsive to, and generates, cellular network signaling, and the wired telephone system is responsive to, and generates, wired signals. The system includes: a protocol processor ( ) receptive to the wired signals, for generating processed signals; and a terminal adapter controller ( ) conductively coupled both to the base station controller ( ) and to the protocol processor ( ), receptive to the processed signals, for generating cellular network signaling. In another feature of the invention, the cellular network signaling is GSM signaling. In another feature of the invention, the system also includes a voice service module ( ) conductively coupled to the protocol processor, for compressing voice data to standard cellular compression. In another feature of the invention, the system also includes means ( ) for converting mobility events in the wired telephone system to cellular network signaling.

A system for providing integrated multimedia and voice telephone service by simply dialing a telephone number is provided. One or both parties of a typical voice telephone call placed by the calling party dialing the called party number may simultaneously receive multimedia packets of data associated with the other party if both of the voice telephone devices are connected to or associated with a multimedia display device, and both telephone numbers are associated with clients or subscribers of the multimedia service. Multimedia data that may be provided to one or both parties includes names, office hours, maps of the other party's location, etc.

A cellular communication system and method where a mobile user communicates coded information signals on a radio channel via a cellsite and a cellsite controller to a switching network. The switching network switches the signal to a transcoder which converts the coded signal to an uncoded signal. The uncoded signal is communicated to another user, and may be maintained and remain untouched and uninterrupted during handoffs.

Abstract:

A system for providing fixed wireless access to standard telephony device is disclosed. A subscriber unit comprising a telephony interface for connecting to a standard telephony device, and a transceiver for establishing a communication link with a wireless network is used for providing telephony service to standard telephony device. Dual tone multiple frequency (DTMF) tones produced by said standard telephony device are sent to the wireless network, either directly or indirectly in the form of digit messages corresponding to the dialed digits, after a call set up message is sent. The subscriber unit sends a special set up message which identifies the subscriber unit as a terminal which sends digits on a digit by digit basis. A wireless network component (e. g. an MSC) is configured to identify such a set up message and upon receiving such a set up message collects and analyses digits sent by a subscriber unit on a digit by digit basis in order to provide a service feature or to connect a call.
