Abstract:
The invention reduces the number of data input/output interrupts in a computer, based on dynamic communication between an I/O adapter and a host. The invention can receive data and pass the data to the host for long periods of time with only a single initial interrupt of the host. If the host begins to fall behind in its processing of received data, the invention monitors the situation and initiates additional interrupts to the host. If additional interrupts are needed because the host is falling behind, the invention may further initiate additional processes for the processing of the data to relieve the host situation.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus for sending data from one partition to a second partition within a logically partitioned computer. In a data processing system having multiple logical partitions, a send queue is established in the first logical partition, and a receive queue is established in the second logical partition. The send queue is registered in the send queue in a lookup table available to all of the logical partitions. The send queue is registered using as a key the logical partition identification of the first logical partition and the subchannel number (LPAR-ID. SUBCHANNEL#) of the subchannel assigned to the partition. The receive queue is registered in the lookup table using as a key, the internet protocol address of the receive queue in the second partition. A send instruction from the first logical partition is executed which interrogates the lookup table using the LPAR-ID. SUBCHANNEL# key to locate the send queue and IP address key to locate the receive queue, and sends the data in the send queue in the first logical partition to the receive queue in the second logical partition.

Abstract:
An efficient input/output (I/O) retry method which can be implemented in an enterprise-server configured with QDIO. The method can include attempting a QDIO-based data transfer between outbound and inbound queues in respective sending and target LPARs in the enterprise server. Responsive to detecting a busy condition resulting from the attempt; it can be determined whether the busy condition arose from an asynchronous busy condition. If it is determined that the busy condition arose from an asynchronous busy condition in the target LPAR, any attempt to retry the QDIO-based data transfer can be delayed. Subsequent to the delay, the QDIO-based data transfer can be re-attempted.

Abstract:
Methods, systems, and computer program products for improving data transfer in complex computing environments. Internal routing enhancements are defined, which enable traffic of virtual servers to be processed more efficiently, thereby improving overall data transfer rates. Instead of performing routing operations in the Internet Protocol (“IP”) layer of a networking stack, a “mini-routing” table is created programmatically and is used to perform routing at the Data Link Control (“DLC”) layer. This technique avoids bottlenecks in the IP layer and speeds the data transfer process.

Abstract:
A method, system, and program product for a data processing system having multiple hosts which dynamically determines blocking of packets in the data processing system. A connection is established between a host and an adapter for communication with a Local Area Network. A set of parameters is established for blocking packets transmitted from the adapter to the host. The set of parameters is stored in the adapter to be used by that connection. The packets transmitted from the adapter to the host are grouped or blocked in accordance with the set of parameters for that connection. Periodically, the packets being transmitted from the adapter to the host are evaluated for determining changes in the parameters. Changes to the set of parameters are recorded in the adapter for that connection to the host. Where there are multiple connections established between the adapter and multiple hosts, a set of parameters to be used for each connection is established such that packets are blocked in accordance with a respective set of parameters for a respective one of the hosts.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for controlling diagnostic functions on a remote device. The system includes a host, and a network adapter in communication with the host. The system performs a method comprising receiving a diagnostic signal from the host device on the remote device, associating the diagnostic signal with a diagnostic state of the remote device, and performing a diagnostic function indicated by the diagnostic signal.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for controlling tracing functions on a remote device. The system includes means for receiving a diagnostic signal from a host device on the remote device and means for associating the diagnostic signal with a tracing state of the remote device. In addition, the system includes means for performing a tracing function indicated by the diagnostic signal. The present invention can also be viewed as a method for controlling tracing functions on a remote device. The method operates by receiving a diagnostic signal from a host device on the remote device and associating the diagnostic signal with a tracing state of the remote device. Then, the method performs a tracing function indicated by the diagnostic signal.

Abstract:
A solution for emulating a hardware device is provided. In particular, a communication device that includes a standard mode of operation and a mapping mode of operation is used together with a control program to emulate communication with the hardware device. The mapping mode of operation is used to implement communication functionality that requires hardware, while the control program emulates other communication functionality previously provided by the hardware device. As a result, a protocol, such as a channel protocol, that requires hardware functionality can be successfully emulated using both the control program and the communication device.

"There was about 40 to 60 people here. Even the person who sponsored the event didn't know that this song was going to be sang. But the words and everything are deplorable and it's not what the Elks are about," said Jerry Stevens with Glendale Elks Lodge 1289.
The words and everything are deplorable and thats not what the elks are about. We dont want to be remembered for this one incident that was a non-sanctioned Elk event, said Jerry Stevens with the board of trustees for the lodge.
