Abstract:

A continuous-wave (CW) ultraviolet (UV) curing system for solid freeform fabrication (SFF) is provided, wherein the curing system is configured to provide an exposure of UV radiation for one or more layers of UV-curable material. One or more UV exposures may initiate curing of a curable material in the layer dispensed by a solid freeform fabrication apparatus. One approach to provide the single or multiple UV exposures is the use of one or more UV LEDs, which generate UV radiation without generating any substantial amounts of infrared (IR) radiation at the same time. This allows for the curing process to be energy efficient and also allows for the SFF system to be far less complex.

Abstract:

A vibration-reduced impact tool is disclosed wherein an elastomeric vibration isolator is fixedly attached within the tool housing and functions to absorb the vibration typically transmitted from the handle to the operator. The isolator is mounted between the cylinder assembly and the handle. As the tool is operated, a piston within the cylinder assembly is driven forward where it impacts with a tool accessory. The impact causes the piston and cylinder assembly to slide rearward in the tool housing, toward the handle. The elastomeric isolator absorbs the rearward movement of the cylinder assembly and thereby eliminates much of the vibration normally transmitted from the cylinder assembly to the handle and in turn, to the operator.

Abstract:

A three-dimensional printing system for solidifying a photocurable resin in a layer-by-layer manner at a build plane includes a scan module, a transparent plate, a sensor, and a controller. The scan module is configured to scan the light beam along two axes to address the build plane. The transparent plate is positioned in the optical path between the scan module and the build plane. The transparent plate has at least one reflective feature in the optical path. The sensor is mounted above the glass plate and is positioned to receive light reflected from the reflective feature. The controller is configured to operate the scan module to scan the light beam across the build plane, receive a signal from the sensor when the light beam impinges upon the reflective feature, and analyze the signal to verify a proper alignment of the light beam to the build plane.
