Abstract:

An oral function and dysfunction quantification method that automatically records the amount of time required for a laboratory animal to gnaw through multiple obstructions in a tube includes a confinement tube and spring-loaded polymer dowels that actuate timers to precisely record the time required for a rodent to complete a discrete gnawing task. The investigation of human orofacial pain requires an animal test that objectively measures impairment secondary to pain during an oral function (gnawing) that is analogous to behavior that elicits pain in human patients (chewing). The method can also evaluate behavioral change secondary to complex disorders such as anxiety and depression and facilitate evaluation of molecular mechanisms and pharmacologic therapies relevant to chronic orofacial pain and behavioral disorders.

Abstract:

A room deodorizer that relies on the fact that oil and water do not mix and that oil is lighter than water, to the end that water can be used to drive the perfume oils out of a paper matrix or the like by molecular displacement consequently, instead of having a perfume solution moving up a wick, it is provided that water rises from a reservoir by capillary action into an upper portion of a wick which is impregnated with perfume oil, and because of the molecular displacement of the oil by the water, the perfume oil is thereby driven to the surface when it evaporates into the ambient.

Abstract:

A method of varying turbine output from approximately 85% rated load down to approximately 65% rated output or alternatively from 100% down to approximately 85% where the turbine forms part of a supercritical installation having a steam generator for generating steam to a predetermined amount in excess of critical pressure. The installation includes a feed water pump or maintaining pressures in the steam generator to the predetermined amount in excess of critical pressure, a division valve and a turbine control valve. Output is varied by maintaining the control valve in a fully or partially open position, the division valve in a fully open position and varying the delivery pressure of the feed water pump from the predetermined supercritical pressure to a pressure slightly above critical.

Abstract:

An automatic toilet bowl cleaning device adapted to dispense water soluble solid disinfectant into the flushing water of the toilet tank, such device comprising a container for the disinfectant and a cover fitted on the container; the cover has a series of spaced holes or apertures extending through the top wall thereof and a series of spaced holes extending through the side wall, the total area of all of the latter holes being less than the total area of the former holes; and in which the former holes are arranged in the diametrically opposite half of the cover from the latter holes, whereby in operation, air is trapped momentarily in the head of the device creating a turbulence inside the container which provides a mixing action, thereby promoting the formation and dispensing of disinfectant solution.

Abstract:

A squeeze spray container includes a spray head with a nozzle part and an air intake part. A slotted membrane seated in the air intake part prevents air from escaping the container when squeezed, and causes a positive pressure to be applied to liquid in the container so as to direct the liquid up a liquid feed tube received in the nozzle part. The nozzle part is generally cylindrical and has an air passage formed in its inside wall to communicate pressurized air from a bottom end to a top end of the nozzle part when the container is squeezed. A spray passage in the top end communicates between the air passage and a liquid spray opening in the nozzle part, and a first liquid notch in the inside surface of the top end directs pressurized liquid forced up the feed tube to a point in the spray passage at which pressurized air is directed by the air passage. Accordingly, a pressurized mixture of air and liquid is forced through the spray passage and exits the nozzle spray opening in a liquid spray pattern.

Abstract:

A modular antenna driver is provided for extending the area of coverage between a base station connected to a CATV cable system and a plurality of cordless handsets. The driver includes a duplex circuit connected to the CATV cable and tuned for upstream and downstream communications with the base station over the cable. A core circuit connected to the duplex circuit includes circuitry interconnected to perform and of sufficient bandwidth to perform communication functions common to at least two different handset types. At least one removable module is selectively insertable into the driver and includes circuitry interconnected to perform communication functions characteristic of one handset type wherein one such module will may be replaced by a second module for a different second handset type. In the alternative, multiple removable modules may be simultaneously employed in the driver to permit simultaneous compatibility with a plurality of handset types.
