Abstract:

Described are techniques for detecting data collisions between a first portion and a second portion of an application executing on a computer, the first portion and the second portions executing concurrently with respect to each other. While the first portion and second portion are executing, before the first portion accesses a memory location shared by the first portion and the second portion, a value stored in the memory location is captured and the first portion is delayed. While the second portion continues to execute the first portion is delayed. After a period of the first portion having been paused or slowed, the current content of the memory location is compared with the captured content to determine if there is a data collision. The first and second portions may be threads, and the capturing, delaying, and determining may be performed by code inserted to the application after it has been compiled.

Abstract:

The claimed subject matter provides a method for detecting a data race. The method includes inserting a plurality of breakpoints into a corresponding plurality of program locations. Each of the program locations accesses a plurality of memory locations. Each of the program locations is selected randomly. The method also includes detecting one or more data races for the memory locations in response to one or more of the breakpoints firing. Additionally, the method includes generating a report describing the one or more data races.

Abstract:

A constant flow rate input fluid of mixed gas, oil, water and suspended solids separates into its phases by centrifuging in a chamber of a multiple phase separator. Clean oil draws off through a mouth of a pitot tube tap which extends into the chamber. Solids leave the chamber through radially perimetric orifices. Water leaves the chamber through a radial passage opening into the chamber radially inward of the orifices and outward of the mouth of the pitot tube. Gas leaves the chamber through an annular tap radially inside the mouth of the pitot tube. An overflow oil stream leaves through this annulus and keeps separate from the gas by gravity. The quantity of water in the chamber determines the radial positions of the lighter constituents of oil and gas so that each tap for these phases draws only the proper phase. Insufficient water in the chamber reduces the water flow rate from the separator, which generates a signal that recirculates water from a reservoir into the separator to increase the quantity of water there. Too much water increases the water flow rate from the separator.

Abstract:

A gas/liquid separator includes a housing and a rotatable degassing chamber in the housing. Liquid containing gas is fed into the housing and through an annular liquid inlet conduit which opens into the chamber. Degasified liquid is discharged from the rotating chamber through one or more discharge passages in the circumferential wall of the chamber due to centrifugal force on the liquid in the rotating chamber. An upstream portion of each discharge passage is farther radially from the chamber axis of rotation than is the exit port of the passage. This forms a column of liquid in each discharge passage which, in turn, provides a gas seal between the inside and the outside of the chamber to prevent separated gas from accompanying the liquid out of the chamber. In essence, the discharge passage incorporates a liquid sealed trap. In applications involving separation of gas from highly viscous liquids, such as drilling mud, the interior of the chamber can contain baffles which expose a large surface area of the liquid to the low pressure in the chamber.

Abstract:

Ski pole modifying apparatus includes a seat contacting member and a ski/boot contacting member. The seat contacting member includes a pole encircling portion with an elongated collar section. An arm portion extends from the collar section and includes a transverse section extending the full length of the arm portion disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to an axis of the collar section. A radial section extends from the periphery of the collar section along substantially the full height thereof and tapers downwardly toward the free end of the transverse section. The ski/boot contacting member includes a platform portion with a central opening surrounded by a cylindrical section and an odd number of substantially equal length peripheral edges with a minimum of five. A generally circular opening extends through the platform portion adjacent a midpoint of each peripheral edge thereof. Each circular opening includes a channel communicating with the adjacent peripheral edge with the channel having a width less than the diameter of the circular opening.

Abstract:

A network arrangement and control method where, before any transmission of data occurs for a particular communication, a network controller determines an unused path to provide a connection, advantageously all the way through the network from a given inlet to a given outlet. Once the identity of the unused path is known, the controller determines control information for use in activating that path and transmits that control information into the network, significantly via the network inlets. The network responds by activating the determined path and communication is enabled via the activated path, but only for the single connection and no buffering of information is required within the network. The network is particularly well suited for optical implementation and control is effected without the use of spatial light modulators but rather by means of control elements embedded within the network itself.

Ski pole modifying apparatus including a support portion, a hanger portion, a pivoting portion and a stabilizer portion; the support portion including an elongated main section, the main section being capable of mounting on a ski pole intermediate the ends thereof; the hanger portion extending from the support portion, the hanger portion including an arm member with a free end, the arm member being capable of extending generally perpendicularly from the main section; the pivoting portion including mechanism for changing the position of the hanger portion about a transverse axis through the ski pole from a position in which the free end of the arm member of the hanger portion is remote from the ski pole to a position in which the free end is disposed adjacent to the ski pole; the stabilizer portion retaining the position of the hanger portion with respect to the ski pole; whereby when the modifying apparatus is mounted on a ski pole, the hanger portion can be pivoted to a position so it can lay on a ski lift seat to enable a skier to rest his feet on ski pole baskets.
