Abstract:

An elastomeric composition includes a reaction product of an isocyanate component and a resin component comprising a polyol and a polyetheramine in the presence of a first catalyst comprising a metal and a second catalyst comprising an amine. An elastomeric system and a method of making an elastomer are provided. The method includes providing the isocyanate component and the resin component, combining the resin component and the isocyanate component in the presence of the first and second catalysts to form an elastomeric composition, applying the elastomeric composition to a mold having a mold cavity, curing the elastomeric composition to form the elastomer, and demolding the elastomer from the mold cavity. An article including a first layer formed from the elastomeric composition emits less than 100 μg/g of volatile organic compounds over 0. 5 hour at 90 C.

Abstract:

An elastomer composition includes the reaction product of an isocyanate component and a resin component. The resin component includes an isocyanate-reactive component, a first chain extender, and a second chain extender. The isocyanate-reactive component has an actual functionality of greater than two, and the first chain extender has an actual functionality of two. The second chain extender, which is different from the first chain extender, has a structure: In this structure, A includes at least two alkyl chain groups. Each alkyl chain group has at least three carbon atoms, and is substantially free of pendent groups. R and R′ are selected from the group of hydroxyl functional groups, amino functional groups, thiol functional groups, and combinations thereof. The elastomer composition has a combination of exceptional tear strength and tensile strength. The elastomer composition is used in a support layer of a composite structure. A process for making the composite structure includes providing a first layer that is a show surface of the composite structure, and providing the support layer.

Abstract:

An elastomeric urethane composition includes the reaction product of a resin composition, including a polyol, and an isocyanate. The resin composition and the isocyanate are reacted, in the presence of a first and a second catalyst, to form a polyurethane elastomer. The first catalyst includes a metal selected from the group of iron, titanium, zirconium and hafnium. The second catalyst includes an amine. The elastomeric urethane composition may be used in a method of making an article. The method includes reacting the resin composition and the isocyanate to form the elastomeric urethane composition, applying the elastomeric urethane composition to a mold cavity, and allowing the elastomeric urethane composition to cure to form a first layer. The method also includes applying a urethane composition, different from the elastomeric urethane composition, to the mold to form a second layer, curing the article in the mold, and de-molding the article from the mold.

A bioresin composition is used to form a rigid polyurethane article that includes a first and a second biopolyol and is substantially free of aprotic solvents that chemically decompose in the presence of water. The first biopolyol includes a natural oil component. The second biopolyol includes the reaction product of a natural carbohydrate and an alkylene oxide. Abstract:

A process for increasing the wetting rate of hydrophobic media with a wetting composition includes the steps of combining water and a heteric polyol to form the wetting composition, aging the wetting composition for an amount of time sufficient to increase the cloud point of the wetting composition to greater than 23 C., and applying the wetting composition to the hydrophobic media. The heteric polyol has the following formula:wherein X is an organic core derived from an initiator having at least two hydroxyl groups; Y is a heteric copolymer comprising at least two different alkyleneoxy units selected from the group of ethyleneoxy units, propyleneoxy units, and butyleneoxy units; the subscripts a and b are independently zero or a positive integer and at least one of a or b must be a positive integer; and the subscript c is an integer of two or greater.
