A fluid compressor of the pitot type includes a high speed, high stress rotary casing. The casing is formed from a pair of tapered discs spaced apart and mounted for rotation about an axis. The discs form the end walls of the casing. A side wall is connected between the opposed peripheral portions of the discs to enclose the casing and a stationary pitot tube. The side wall is formed from a pair of concentric rings connected by a plurality of beams. In one embodiment, the beams are C-shaped with an upper leg attached to the outer ring and a lower leg attached to the inner ring, the longitudinal axis of the beams being parallel to the axis of rotation. In an alternate embodiment, the rings are formed from the upper and lower legs of a plurality of I-shaped beams, the longitudinal axis of the beams being parallel to the axis of rotation.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a cleaning unit for power driven pumps which are required to pump fluids containing significant quantities of particulate material of greater spcific gravity than the fluid. A portion of the pressured fluid output of the pump is utilized to drive a fluid motor which in turn rotatably drives a centrifugal separator. The separator has its inlet connected to the source of particulate containing fluid and effects the centrifugal separation of such fluid into two streams, respectively a clean fluid stream and a particulate containing stream. Means are provided for discharging the particulate containing stream and a diffuser means is provided for converting the rotational energy in the clean fluid stream into a pressure head which is employed to transfer the clean fluid to the inlet of the pump.
An improved design of a rotary pump is provided having a rotary pumping chamber with stationary axially disposed fluid inlet and outlet passages communicating therewith. To increase the rotational speed and the flow capacity, the axial inlet passage is enlarged in diameter to approach the diameter of the rotary pumping chamber. To impart the required rotational velocity to the fluid entering the chamber, vanes are provided in the rotating chamber immediately adjacent the axial annular inlet passage. The fluid pickup and discharge unit is defined by a hollow stationary member disposed in the rotary pumping chamber and having in one embodiment, a plurality of peripherally spaced inlet openings transversely positioned to receive the high rotating velocity fluid therein, and in another modification, a substantially continuous annular inlet opening in a radial plane. In all cases, the rotational energy of the fluid is converted within the pickup unit to a pressure head by flowing radially inwardly, and the pressured fluid is discharged through an axial portion of the pickup unit.
Pumping Apparatus For Fluids Containing Abrasive Particulates
A pump is provided which is specifically designed for the pumping of abrasive particulates, such as a pump employed in the bottom of an oil well. Within a cylindrical housing, one or more pumping stages are provided to pressurize the particulate containing fluid to move the fluid axially through the housing and into a centrifugal type particulate separator mounted on the same shaft as that which drives the pumping stages. The separator effects the division of the fluid into two radially adjacent, axially moving fluid streams with the inner stream being relatively free of particulates and the outer stream containing most of the particulates. A second pump operated by the common pump shaft is employed to increase the pressure of the clean fluid stream above that of the pressurized particulate containing stream and conduit means are then provided for supplying portions of the pressurized clean fluid to each of the bearings and seals contained in the pumping stages and to labyrinth type seals employed in a thrust dummy on the shaft which offsets the thrust reaction forces of the pumping stages.
An erosion resistant surface is provided for pump components, valves, fluid conduits, diffusion chambers, fluid cleaners, and the like, wherein the surface is exposed to high velocity flow of a fluid containing abrasive particulates. Sharply increased erosion life of such surfaces can be obtained by providing a plurality of closely spaced depressions in the surface, with each depression having a depth in excess of its width, and then applying an erosion resistant coating to the remaining original surface and all surfaces of the depressions.

Abstract:
A constant-flow drip irrigation tape hose includes a primary flow path communicating water along the length of the hose. A secondary drip-flow path leads from the primary flow path to an emitter site outwardly of the hose. The hose is formed with a pair of variably spaced apart walls at least one of which is formed with a continuously-open channel defining part of the secondary flow path. A second variable-area part of the secondary flow path is defined by radial spacing of the pair of walls from one another. At least one of the pair of walls is responsive to internal water pressure in the primary flow path to open and close the variable-area part of the secondary flow path in response, respectively, to decreasing and increasing water pressure in the hose. A plurality of emitter sites are spaced regularly along a length of the hose. Consequently, the hose has at least one pressure range within which it provides a nearly constant drip-flow irrigation rate to plants of a row crop as the water pressure within the hose decreases over the length of an elongate run of hose.
Insulating Fluid System For Protecting Submersible Electric Motors From Surrounding Fluids
A method and apparatus are provided for protecting a submersible electric motor from failure due to contamination of the windings of such motor by the fluids surrounding the motor in its submerged environment. A conduit is provided extending from a pressurized source of insulating fluid to the housing of the electric motor immersed in fluids to be pumped. Valve means are provided between the lower end of the tubing and the interior of the motor housing to permit the entry of pressurized lubricating fluid into the motor housing to maintain the internal pressure in the motor housing at a level on the order of 100 p. s. i. , or a determinable rate above the pressure of the surrounding fluids. In accordance with a modification of this invention, the electrical cable by which the submerged motor is energized, is disposed within the conduit filled with insulating fluid.

Abstract:
This pitot pump is provided with pressure balancing for minimizing thrust loads on its bearings. The pump has a housing containing a rotatable casing mounted on a shaft. A fixed pitot tube is mounted in the casing for withdrawing pressurized fluid as the casing rotates and discharging the fluid through an axial outlet passage extending through one end wall of the casing. Fluid is introduced to the casing through the same end wall by way of an annular inlet passage coaxial with the outlet passage. The fluid flows from this inlet passage to the interior of the casing through a plurality of radiating passages in the end wall of the casing. When such a pump is used with a pressurized inlet fluid, an axial thrust on the casing bearings would result if it were not for the thrust balancing means. This comprises an axial balancing chamber between a portion of the end wall opposite the fluid inlet and a portion of the pitot tube. The interior of this chamber is in fluid communication with the suction inlet of a jet pump.

Brandt Snedeker wins, Phil Mickelson falls at 2013 Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Points, who swept both titles in 2011, missed the cut and were off the stage on Sunday. Snedeker and his partner, business exec Toby S. Wilt tied with Michael Letzig and John Erickson for the pro-am title at 31-under. Dallas duo of Jordan Spieth and Tony Romo came close, but had to settle for a T2.
The only disappointment for Snedeker was having to settle for par on the final hole, and watching his amateur, Toby Wilt, graze the edge of the cup with his final putt. That means he had to share first place in the pro-am with Michael Letzig and John Erickson. Wilt, an investor from Nashville, Tenn.
