Abstract:

Amorphous metal foams and methods of making the same are provided. The amorphous metal foams have properties matching those of natural bone, enabling their use as bone replacement scaffolds. In one embodiment, for example, an amorphous metal foam has a density-dependent stiffness (or Young's modulus, denoted E) ranging from about 640ρτo αβouτ 2900ρ, and a density dependent strength (σ) greater than about 8. 1ρ, wherein ρ (the density) is less than about 1. 7 g/cc.

A thin pen cartridge for a thermal ink-jet (TIJ) printer, to be carried in a pen carriage along a carriage scan axis above the print medium. The pen height and depth are at least twice the pen width measured along the scan axis in order to achieve a high volume pen. The reduction in pen width permits the carriage width along the scan axis to be reduced, in turn reducing the footprint size of the TIJ printer.

Abstract:

A thermal ink jet printhead including a thin film substrate with a plurality of polygon shaped thin film resistors, a barrier layer overlying the substrate, and respective firing chambers formed in the barrier layer for each of the resistors. Each firing chamber is formed of a continuously curved concave wall having ends adjacent the boundary of the resistor, and which is within the boundary of the area defined by the resistor and a 10 micrometer wide margin around the resistor.

An ink delivery system for an ink jet printing system having a printhead for ejecting droplets of ink, the printhead receiving ink at a controlled pressure, the controlled pressure having a specified pressure range that assures stable printhead operation which includes a replaceable ink supply removeably mounted in an ink supply station, and a controllable valve. The valve inlet is in fluid communication with the replaceable ink supply. An accumulator in fluid communication with the valve outlet and the printhead has a sensor coupled to the accumulator to sense the state of the accumulator. A controller electrically coupled to the sensor and electrically coupled to the controllable valve opens and closes the valve in response to the state of the accumulator.

Embodiments of quantum clocks for a master/slave architecture are generally described herein. In some embodiments, a coupled pair of entangled particles is generated using a particle source. A first of the entangled particles of the coupled pair is used as a master clock. A second of the entangled particles of the coupled pair is used as a slave clock. Quantum states of the first entangled particle of the coupled pair associated with the master clock and the second of the entangled particles of the coupled pair associated with the slave clock are entangled by an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) link.

A quantum mechanical synchronization system for a classical distributed computing system. Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen links are established providing entangled photons to provide the quantum synchronization. In one embodiment, the system includes a laser oscillator pump, a spontaneous parametric down-conversion element coupled to the laser oscillator pump, the spontaneous parametric down-conversion element having a first optical output and a second optical output, a first photodetector coupled to the first optical output, a first clock coupled to the first photodetector, a second photodetector coupled to the second optical output by an optical link, and a second clock coupled to the second photodetector.
