Abstract:

A diamino-xanthene colorant is provided having the following structure: ##STR1## where Y is a poly(oxyalkylene) substituent having a straight or branched polymer chain of at least 3 monomer units selected from ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, butylene oxide and glycidol; R. sub. 1 and R. sub. 2 are independently selected from H, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, Cl, Br and I; X is selected from H, SO. sub. 3 --, CO. sub. 2 -- and COOR. sub. 3, where R. sub. 3 is C1-C4 alkyl or aryl; and each Z is independently selected from SO. sub. 3 --, CO. sub. 2 --, COOR. sub. 4, Cl and OH, where R. sub. 4 is C1-C4 alkyl or aryl, and n is 0, 1, or 2; the colorant is synthesized by condensing two moles of an N,N-bis(poly(oxyalkylene))-p-methoxyaniline and o-formylbenzene sulfonic acid.

Triazine compounds are disclosed which are useful for imparting UV screening properties to polymers of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is an electron withdrawing group; R. sub. 1 is H, ##STR2## where R. sub. 3 is an alkyl group having from one to about six carbon atoms; and R. sub. 2 is selected from H and CH. sub. 3, also disclosed are polymer compositions having improved UV screening properties containing said triazine compounds.

Abstract:

A method is provided for temporary coloration of textile materials which comprises applying to said textile materials an amine-reducible tint in an amount sufficient to provide coloration to said textile material, said tint being characterized by the formula: R{A[alkeneoxy constituent). sub. n X]. sub. m }. sub. p where RA is the organic, easily reducible dyestuff radical, A is a linking moiety in said organic, easily reducible dyestuff radical selected from the group consisting of --N--, --O--, --S--, or --CO. sub. 2 --, the alkenyl moiety of said alkyleneoxy constituent contains from 2 to about 4 carbon atoms, n is an integer of from 2 to about 300, m is 1 when A is --O--, --S--, --CO. sub. 2 -- and 2 when A is --N--, p is an integer of from 1 to 5, and X is a member of the group consisting of --H--, alkyl, -alkylcarboxylate, or -arylcarboxylate; and contacting said amine-reducible tint with an amine compound in an amount sufficient to reduce said tint whereby said coloration of said textile material is removed.

Abstract:

Colorants and compositions useful as a fugitive or permanent colorant for a variety of substrates, or as intermediates for their manufacture, and having one or more improved properties of enhanced aqueous washability, compatibility with and non-extractibility from thermoplastic resins, or reactivity with resins having reactive functionality, said composition having the formula C(Z). sub. 1-8 wherein: C is the residue of a reactant having from 1-8 nucleophilic site residues to which the Z moieties are attached; said Z moieties containing at least about 60 weight percent of poly(oxyalkylene) which is comprised of (a) at least one glycidol residue segment of 2-6 glycidol residues attached to a nucleophilic site of C, wherein said poly(oxyalkylene) contains a total of from 2-20 glycidol residues, (b) and wherein said poly(oxyalkylene) further contains the residues of one or more other epoxide reactants of ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO), or butylene oxide (BO), or mixtures thereof, wherein said poly(oxyalkylene) contains a total of from about 10 to about 600 of said EO, PO or BO residues, or mixtures thereof, at least about 75 mole percent of which are EO residues, (c) and with the provisions that the ratio of the total of --0--PO-- and --O--BO-- linkages of all glycidol residues to the total of all functional oxy linkages of said glycidol residues is less than one, and the molar ratio of EO residues to glycidol residues is from 4 to 75.

An aqueous solution of a chromophore having at least one sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid functionality and a triethanolamine ethoxylate is provided for a fugitive colorant useful in ink formulations or to temporarily tint textile fibers.
