Abstract:

This invention relates to the production of an hexabromocyclododecane product, which process comprises brominating cyclododecatriene in the presence of a 1,4-dioxane and water based solvent and from about 0. 5 to about 30 wt % bromide ion in the liquid phase of the reaction mass. Optional post-reaction heat treatment in a finishing step increases process yields if needed. The hexabromocyclododecane product is unrecrystallized and contains no more than about 1. 5 wt % tetrabromocyclododecene impurities.

Hexabromocyclododecane with enhanced gamma isomer content is produced by brominating cyclododecatriene in a liquid medium comprised of (1) at least 50 wt % of at least one liquid inert organic solvent other than 1,4-dioxane having a solubility in water of at least 1 wt % at 25Â C. , and (2) water in an amount of up to about 40 wt %, in the presence of (3) about 0. 5 to about 30 wt % of bromide ion (Br ), each wt % being based on the total weight of the liquid portion of the liquid medium.

Abstract:

In producing aqueous microbiocidal solutions by oxidation of a water-soluble alkali metal bromide, an intolerable loss of active halogen species has been found to occur during a 10-day period immediately after the product solution has been formed. Surprisingly, this loss has been found to result from an alcohol impurity in the alkali metal bromide used in the process. By eliminating or at least sharply reducing the amount of alcohol impurity in the reaction mixture, products are formed which do not undergo the intolerable loss of active halogen content during the 10-day period.

Abstract:

Embodiments of the systems and methods disclosed here are generally directed to anti-stringing systems that can be used in the application of a substance to a work surface. In one embodiment, an anti-stringing system includes an applicator having a nozzle for applying a substance to a work surface and a gas port configured to deliver a gas flow that disrupts the flow of the substance. In some embodiments, the gas port is located at least partially internally of and coaxial with the nozzle such that the substance flowing from the nozzle envelops one end of the nozzle. In other embodiments, the invention concerns hand-held glue guns having anti-string systems. In yet other embodiments, methods for breaking substance strings are disclosed. One such method includes delivering a gas flow that is substantially coaxial with the direction of flow of the substance. Various inventive embodiments relate to methods and devices for delivering a gas flow to a gas port.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a securing device that secures an animal chew to prevent animal choking. The body of the device surrounds a cavity and possesses two boreholes along an axis. A chew with one or more boreholes may be inserted into the cavity so that a borehole aligns along the axis. A pin is then inserted in the first passageway along the axis, until it passes through the borehole and into the second passageway. A latch obstructs the head of the pin so that the animal cannot work the pin free while enjoying the chew. To remove the pin, the animal's caretaker can apply force to the end of the pin to push it free past the latch. Optionally, the user may need to push aside the latch while pushing the pin free.

The present invention is directed to a support device that holds an item on a stage that is elevated on extended legs in an elongated curved form. To store or transport the support device, the legs are wound around a mandrel into a coil form that is very compact. The supporting leg has a subtending angle ranging from a slit tube with an open gap, to a slit tube where the two edges overlap. The most common form of the invention is a tripod.
