Abstract:

A plasma sample collection device includes an elongated blood separation strip having a constant width and a relatively narrower end portion. A support base is located under the plasma separator strip and a cover is positioned superincumbent with respect to the blood separator strip. The cover defines an elongated observation window extending along the length of the plasma separator strip. An oblong collection port is adjacent to but spaced from one end of the observation window. The oblong collection port exposes the separator strip end portion and has a chief axis substantially aligned with the longitudinal axis of the blood separation strip. In one embodiment, the collection port has a teardrop configuration, and in another embodiment it has an obovate-cuneate configuration.

Abstract:

An apparatus for discontinuously operating a receiver (302) includes a receive data circuitry (304) and processor circuitry (306). The apparatus and receiver (302) are incorporated in a communication device (104). The receiver (302) receives a communication signal (106) having a plurality of frames (200, 214, 224). Each of the frames has a synchronization field (202, 217, 222) followed by a data field (204, 218, 228). The receive data circuitry (304) synchronizes the communication device (104) with the communication signal (106) received by the receiver (302) according to an initial synchronization field (202). The receive data circuitry (304) decodes the following data field (204). The processor (306) evaluates the decoded data field. If the decoded data field indicates that the receiver (302) is locked, the processor (306) powers off the receiver (302) for the following synchronization fields (222).

Abstract:

A signal level indicator (204, 304) displays the magnitude of an input signal (421) by illuminating each of a number of five LEDs (314-318, 414-418) for an individual period of time. The number of LEDs to be illuminated and the individual period of time that each is to be illuminated varies with the magnitude of the input signal (421).
