Abstract:
A digital system provides a serial bus diagnostic port such as, for example, a universal serial bus (USB) diagnostic port. The USB diagnostic port can include a USB slave device operable to interface to a universal serial bus, a flash memory controller interface coupled to the USB slave device and operable to interface to a flash memory controller, and a test access port controller coupled to the USB slave device and operable to interface to a test access port. The diagnostic port can further include a system interface coupled to the USB slave device and operable to interface to an integrated controller independently of an operating system. Via the diagnostic port, a USB testing tool with testing software can access and debug internal logic of the digital system. As an alternative to a USB diagnostic port, the serial bus diagnostic port can be implemented in a variety of wired or wireless implementations such as, for example, an I. E. E. E. 1394 diagnostic port, an Ethernet diagnostic port, or a wireless Internet diagnostic port.

Abstract:
A method for managing remote clients includes retrieving a client version identifier for an application program running on a client. The client version identifier is compared with a master version identifier for a master configuration file on a server. An active configuration of the application program on the client is altered while the application program is running.
A computing device executes a boot process. During boot process execution, the computing device initiates automatic calibration of a battery connected to the computing device.
Example embodiments relate to testing of a battery of a computing device. In example embodiments, a battery test may include determining whether charge control is available for a battery and reading battery data from the battery based on whether charge control is available for the battery. In addition, in example embodiments, the battery test may include determining whether the battery should be replaced based on the battery data.

Abstract:
A computing system employs a user feedback mechanism to monitor operating conditions of the computing system and to alert a user to the operating conditions independently of an operating system of the computing system. The user feedback mechanism includes a display panel to display operating condition messages to the user and includes a controller to monitor operating condition signals. Some examples of operating conditions include a connection state of the computing system to the Internet, a connection state of a peripheral device to the computing system, a new e-mail notification message, a new Internet message and atomic time from a network server coupled to the computing system. The user feedback mechanism may include a safety button to signal a power supply to power off the computing system independently of the operating system.

Abstract:
Example embodiments relate to methods for updating firmware of a hardware component included in a computing device. An example method may store an executable firmware update for the hardware component on a machine-readable storage medium. The method may then initiate a firmware update application by a firmware-to-operating system (OS) interface upon boot-up of the computing device. Finally, the method may trigger update of the firmware of the hardware component by starting execution of the executable firmware update. Related computing devices and machine-readable storage media are also disclosed.
Method And System For Performing System Maintenance In A Computing Device
The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method of performing system maintenance in a computing device. The method includes launching a maintenance application in a pre-operating system environment of a computing device (). The maintenance application performs at least one hardware maintenance operation on the hardware of the computing device during device down time. The method also includes generating a log the based on the results of the at least one hardware maintenance operation (). The method also includes terminating the maintenance application, launching the operating system of the computing device (), and accessing the log the ().
