Abstract:

The present invention relates to the field of metabolic research, in particular the discovery of compounds effective for reducing body mass and useful for treating obesity-related diseases and disorders. The obesity-related diseases or disorders envisioned to be treated by the methods of the invention include, but are not limited to, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, diabetes, and hypertension. In particular, the invention provides for methods of identifying and using AGONISTS and ANTAGONISTS of XOBESIN activity, wherein said activity is selected from the group consisting of lipid partitioning, lipid metabolism, and insulin-like activity.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a system and method for determining, distributing and implementing the best practice for performing a task, and for assessing deviations from that best practice. A feature of the invention involves the identification of qualified reviewers from among workers who perform the task, in order to facilitate and expedite assessment of other workers' performance of the task, and to help prompt interest by other workers in learning and implementing the best practice. Abstract:

The present invention relates to the field of central nervous system (CNS) research. Demyelination of neuronal axons within the CNS underlies the pathogenesis of degenerative diseases of the neuromuscular system, such as multiple sclerosis and hereditary leukodystrophies. Therefore, treatments aimed towards accelerating the repair of myelin sheaths offer a potential therapeutic to ameliorate the symptoms of multiple sclerosis and leukodystrophies. A compound, globular OBG3, has been identified that has immunosuppressive properties. This compound should be effective for accelerating the rate of remyelination and treating multiple sclerosis and leukodystrophies.

A method for producing a differentiated tissue is provided, which method comprises isolating at least one population of homogeneous multipotent cells, and culturing the cells in the presence of at least one differentiation factor, wherein the cells are supported by a solid phase scaffold.
