Abstract:
A modular printed circuit card edge connector or a cable connector plug is made in several parts including the connector body, a bottom plate, two separate end caps and a plurality of connector terminals. The body of the connector can be cut to any length and assembled with the other parts to provide a card edge connector or cable connector of a desired length. In a second embodiment of the invention, a press fit connector is made up of the modular parts. The base plate is not used and the body of the connector is used to press fit the terminals into a circuit board.
Multi-Row Press Fit Connector For Use With Bus Bars
A multiple row press fit connector is configured so that a bus bar may extend under either end thereof to supply power to a plurality of the connector terminals in the connector. The connector may also be configured to provide for early connect for some of the connector terminals. The connector may be either male or female type and the connector terminals may be positioned in the connector in line across or offset across the connector.

Abstract:
A high density connector for connecting to the edge of a printed circuit board uses two different contact terminals, one of which is reversible, and a spacing block to guide the contact terminals into the connector and to maintain close spacing of the contacts on each side of the printed circuit board. The connector housing has openings in the center of the housing to allow for expansion of the housing material and to provide for an optional grounding bus.
A connector with one or more rows of contacts has enlarged contacts on each end of the connector to handle large currents. The enlarged contacts or power contacts maybe be either male or female type contacts whereas the male contact has two compliant press fit ends for press fitting into a circuit board and the female type contact is a two piece contact and has a tab end that is connected to the edge of a printed circuit board.
A convertible connector which may be either a male or female pressfit connector uses a common metal shell that is reversed depending upon whether a male or female connector is used, and which receives one of two different insulators depending upon the type of connector to be made. The insulator is used to press fit the terminal pin into the printed circuit board, and a standard prior art male pressfit terminal pin is used with a metallic tube fitted over one end of the male pressfit terminal to adapt it for use in the convertible connector.
