Abstract:

A meta-material vibration energy harvester includes a housing element encapsulating a multiplicity of oscillators capable of harvesting a significant percentage of the total mechanical energy diffusely distributed throughout the vibrating structure, the harvester design resulting in a rapid transfer of mechanical energy entering it via the housing element from the element to the oscillators wherein the energy remains trapped while accumulating over an extended time, the percentage of energy transfer primarily depending on the ratios of the sum of the oscillator masses to the sum of the housing mass and of the measure of the mass of the vibrating structure and of the width of the band spanned by the oscillators to its center frequency, both the relevant measure of the vibrating structure mass and the values of the mass and frequency ratios that maximize the percentage of internal energy transfer depending on the harvesting scenerio.

Abstract:

A pre-soak station, a washing station, and a drying station are arranged in an in-line manner so that a multiplicity or group of mold support units or workpiece holders arranged single file may be moved sequentially from station to station. A first group of such units after being submersed in a hot water/detergent bath at the pre-soak station is placed on an open rail support or trackway for conveyance to the washing station where nozzles supported on corresponding manifolds surrounding the trackway direct pressurized streams of hot water against the individual units for a predetermined interval or washing cycle. The group of washed units are then conveyed along the same trackway to a tray supported within the interior of a drying chamber having movable baffle means for directing forced, heated air through the interior of each mold or mold support unit during the initial portion of the drying cycle, and for directing the forced, heated air against the top and exterior side portions of each unit during a second or later portion of the drying cycle upon selective movement of the baffle means from a first position to a second position. A plenum defining a surface for supporting the mold support units in their tray in the drying station is connected to a vacuum pump to facilitate rapid and effective drying during both phases of the drying cycle. A hinged door in the assembly comprising the baffle means facilitates removal of the tray housing the dried units so that a subsequent tray may be inserted into the drying station for receiving the next group of units to be dried.

Abstract:

A transport mechanism for articles between a pair of conveyors includes a constantly driven drive member, a driven member and a ball and detent mechanism intercooperating between a pair of confronting surfaces of the members. The transport mechanism is mechanically phased in and out in operation in timed relation to movement of the conveyor to which articles are moved. Mechanical phasing in and out is carried out by a lever having a tooth adapted for engagement in a notch of the driven member and a wheel cooperative with a rail including a gate on the drive member. The transport mechanism is phased out of operation when the wheel enters the gate and phased in in operation when the wheel exits the gate.

Abstract:

A water spray cooler with a pair of water collecting mesh structures and having a water spraying nozzle assembly disposed therebetween. Air entering the cooler is directed through the mesh structures and towards a cooler outlet port. The entering air is cooled as it passes through a cool water spray from the nozzle assembly and through the mesh structures which have collected water.

Abstract:

Apparatus and method for extracting tubular articles from their molds and inserting them into corresponding workpiece holders comprising a first orienting device for delivering the molded tubular articles in their molds to a first conveyer whereupon the axis of each mold and the tubular article therein has been rotated 90. degree. , i. e. from an upstanding position to a horizontal position; a second conveyer moving in synchronism with said first conveyer for carrying a series of workpiece holders disposed horizontally and in axially opposed alignment with respect to the molds on said first conveyer; a transfer device for extracting the articles from their molds while in the horizontal position and inserting them in inverted fashion into corresponding workpiece holders along a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of each mold as first and second conveyers move in synchronism, and a second orienting device for receiving the workpiece holders from said second conveyer and for returning them to an upright position.

Abstract:

A corrosion detector for determining the corrosivity of a fluid and the ability of a metal to withstand the corrosive tendencies includes a tubular test specimen and a reference specimen. The two specimens are of the same composition and configuration over the length of the test specimen over which measurements are made. Means are provided for maintaining the two specimens at a temperature within less than 1. degree. F. of each other. The corrosive fluid is passed through the test specimen. An alternating current is passed through the test specimen and reference specimen and the change in resistance of the test specimen relative to the reference specimen is measured in a phase sensitive Wheatstone bridge circuit to determine the extent of corrosion.
