Abstract:

The present methods and systems provide spectrum management for enhancing upstream performance for cable networks. According to one embodiment, a method of enhancing upstream performance in a cable network includes the steps of measuring performance of an upstream channel at a first data signaling rate; determining whether the upstream channel supports a second data signaling rate based on the performance; and selectively transitioning to the second data signaling rate based on said determination. The second data signaling rate is a higher rate than the first data signaling rate.

Abstract:

An advertising system provides content relevant advertisements to a client. The system comprises an advertisement object, an auto rendering object, and a distribution object. The advertisement object defined an instance of advertisement content in a placement database and defined, in association with the instance, each of a financial parameter and redirect data. The auto rendering object generates associated advertisement content. The associated advertisement content being associated advertisement content selected from a group of associated advertisement content consisting of: i) an alternative rendering of the instance of advertisement content; and ii) an alternative rendering of content obtained in response to linking to the redirect URL. The distribution object receives advertisement requests and, in response to receiving an advertisement request: i) obtains from the placement database, an instance of advertisement content; ii) obtains from the placement database, the associated advertisement content that is associated with the instance of advertisement content in the placement database, and iii) returns an advertisement impression comprising both the instance of advertisement content and the associated advertisement content.

Abstract:

An advertisement system provides an advertisement impression in response to each advertisement request received from each of a plurality of diverse general media advertisement delivery systems. The advertisement system comprises a placement database and a distribution object. The placement stores a plurality of instances of advertisement content, each in association with a subject matter category, rendering factors, and a financial parameter. The distribution object receives each advertisement request. Each advertisement request includes channel identifier and at least one query parameter. The distribution object returns an advertisement impression that includes an instance of advertisement content that: i) is stored in association with a subject matter category meeting selection criteria determined from the query parameters; ii) is stored in association with rendering factors that correspond to the rendering type parameters; and iii) is stored in association with a financial parameter meeting financial parameter selection criteria. The rendering parameters are one of rendering parameters included in the impression request and/or rendering type parameters associated with the channel identifier. The financial parameter defines an amount payable by the advertiser upon the occurrence of an assessment event associated with rendering the instance of advertisement content.

A feeding tube assembly for insertion and delivery of nutrients into an alimentary canal is disclosed. Abstract:

A two wire modem selects a carrier frequency in a baud rate from a predetermined plurality of carrier frequencies and baud rates to communicate with another modem over a communication media in a full duplex mode based on signal and echo characteristics of the communication media estimated by the modem. In addition, the processes of estimating channel characteristics and estimating range are combined in a common start up procedure comprising a plurality of successive time segments for a call modem to communicate with an answer modem over a communication media. Still further, a method is provided for switching from a primary communication media connection to a secondary connection of a data communications network for communication by first and second modems coupled to the network. More specifically, when a failure is detected in the primary connection, the secondary connection is qualified before switching thereto. Similarly, while communicating over the secondary connection, the primary connection is qualified so that communication may be restored thereto at some later time.

Abstract:

Measuring the programming resistor in a data jack by placing the resistor in an AC voltage divider circuit via a transformer. An AC voltage (preferably generated by the modem's own transmitter circuitry) is applied to the voltage divider circuit, and an AC voltage measurement (preferably made by the modem's A/D converter) provides the resistance of the programming resistor. Matching the low-pass filter impedance characteristic of a local loop with a network having a matching low-pass filter characteristic, while also compensating the received signal with a compensation network having a high-pass filter characteristic, to reduce the frequency dependent gain effects caused by the matching network and/or the local loop.
