Abstract:

A glove box door assembly for a glove box provided in an opening of an instrument panel of a vehicle defining an engagement surface includes a door body rotatably attached to an instrument panel of a vehicle about an axis of rotation. The door body has an inner surface and an outer surface. A bin extends outwardly from the inner surface of the door body, and includes an outer wall. A damper extends outwardly from the outer wall of the bin, and includes a damper surface. The glove box door assembly is movable between a closed position and an open position. The damper surface is disposed at an acute angle relative to a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation, and engages an engagement surface of an opening of the instrument panel to decelerate the glove box door assembly when the glove box door assembly moves from the closed position to the open position.

Abstract:

An instrument-panel mounting system mounts an instrument panel to the body of an automotive vehicle. The mounting system includes an instrument panel having at least one base panel with at least one aperture defined through the base panel and adapted to be aligned with a corresponding aperture on the vehicle body. A threaded fastener is received in the aligned apertures defined through the base panel and vehicle body and adapted to generate a clamping force to mount the instrument panel to the vehicle body. A clamping sheet is disposed between the base panel and vehicle body. The clamping sheet includes an aperture defined through the clamping sheet and aligned with the aligned apertures defined through the base panel and vehicle body. The clamping sheet also includes a strut defined about the periphery of the aperture defined through the clamping sheet and extending in the general direction of the clamping force generated by the fastener. The strut acts to distribute the clamping force through the clamping sheet and vehicle body.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a convertible top with a top cover over lay type seal between the rear window glass and the convertible top along side and lower edge of the window glass. The convertible top allows the utilization of a substantially rigid back window of a much greater area than previously allowable and provides a novel folding arrangement for storing the back window. The arrangement includes a first link pivotably connected with the vehicle. A trim link pivotally connected with the first link, extends rearwardly, and the trim link has a pivotally connected extension. An upper link is pivotally connected with the first link and the back window. The back window is also pivotally connected with the trim link extension. In a first top position the back window is urged against a lower sealing surface. In a second top position the back window is positioned in a generally vertical position away from the sealing surface.

Abstract:

A die set for forming a panel having a surface includes a stationary die, a moveable die, and a clamp attached to the stationary die to secure a panel blank. The moveable die includes a moveable brazing formation surface and the stationary die includes a stationary brazing formation surface for forming the surface. One of the moveable and stationary dies includes a male bead forming portion, and the other includes a female bead forming portion for forming a bead. The male and female bead forming portions extend in a continuous and uninterrupted, generally parallel relationship with the moveable and stationary brazing formation surfaces. The male and female bead forming portions are operable to engage the panel blank during movement of the moveable die to induce tensile forces in both a first direction parallel to a path of the surface and a second direction transverse to the path.

Abstract:

A method of forming a surface in a panel includes positioning a panel blank between a stationary die and a moveable die of a die set, and moving the moveable die toward the stationary die to deform the panel blank therebetween. Positive stresses in the panel blank are maintained in the region of the panel blank that will form the surface by forming a bead along a length of the surface to be formed in the panel blank, as the moveable die moves toward the stationary die. The moveable die continues to move toward the stationary die, while maintaining positive stresses in the panel blank in the region of the panel blank that will form the surface, to further deform the panel blank into a formed shape that includes the surface.
