Abstract:

A refrigerant recovery apparatus for transferring refrigerant from a first container to a second container includes a compressor having a suction side and a discharge side, a condenser coupled with the discharge side of the compressor and first and second refrigerant inlets and first and second refrigerant outlets. The first and second refrigerant inlets are in fluid communication with the suction side of the compressor. A liquid/vapor switch is suitably positioned between the first refrigerant inlet and the suction side of the compressor to detect whether refrigerant passing through the first refrigerant inlet is in a liquid state or a vapor state. First and second refrigerant outlets are in fluid communication with the discharge and suction sides of the compressor, respectively. The first refrigerant inlet is in fluid communication with the first refrigerant outlet, bypassing the condenser and the compressor. A plurality of valves are controlled automatically by the liquid/vapor switch to transfer liquid refrigerant directly to the second container, bypassing the compressor and condenser, and to pass vaporized refrigerant from the first container through the compressor and condenser and into the second container.

Abstract:

A process is disclosed for producing a semicrystalline polymer composite form which exhibits high strength and low electrical resistivity. Polyether-etherketone PEEK) powder and 4 to 10 volume percent a hard metal powder are blended and then compacted at room temperature to a relative green density greater than 60%. The resulting preform has an electrically conductive segregated network of metal particles throughout a PEEK matrix.

A hand-transportable unit for transferring refrigerants between containers includes a pump to remove refrigerant from a first container The pump is driven by a pneumatic motor. The pump is capable of transferring refrigerant in liquid form, vapor form, or simultaneously in both forms. A condenser for cooling refrigerant is in fluid communication with the pump. The unit also includes a compressor for driving the pneumatic motor to operate the pump. Optionally, the pump may be powered from an external source of compressed gas. The other components of the unit are mounted to a handcart including a frame and wheels to facilitate movement of the unit. In a preferred embodiment, unit is configured for self-evacuation by use of the pump in order to avoid cross-contamination of different refrigerants during subsequent use of the unit.

Abstract:

A combination fluid level indicator and fluid discharge device is provided for preventing inaccurate fluid level indications and facilitating fluid discharge from a compressor or other container. The device includes a body or conduit having an inlet end installed in an aperture through to a compressor housing to fluidly communicate with the compressor and receive the lubricating oil therefrom. A visual indicator provides an indication of the level of the oil within the compressor housing. A discharge port with cap, plug, valve or other flow control member permits selective discharge of the fluid from the compressor through the body. The device is installed in an aperture extending through a side of a compressor housing proximate the bottom thereof and indicates the level of lubricating oil within the housing and permits discharge of oil from the housing.

Abstract:

An electrowetting cell includes a substrate that includes a well filled with at least one fluid an external contact surface. The substrate is formed of ceramic or fiberglass mesh infused with resin. A control channel electrode connection pad and a common electrode connection pad are on the external contact surface. A first plate is coupled to the substrate to seal a first end of the well. A second plate is coupled to the substrate to seal a second end of the well. The electrowetting cell further includes a control channel electrode on the substrate configured to control a shape of the at least one fluid via an electric field, a common electrode, a control channel electrode interconnect connected to the control channel electrode and the control channel electrode connection pad, and a common electrode interconnect connected to the common electrode and the common electrode connection pad.
