Abstract:

A metal wood golf club head has an elongated, forwardly facing front wall to strike a golf ball, and a hollow body rearwardly of the face plate, the front wall elongated in a first transverse direction toward a zone of connection to a club shaft, the body having a thin, metallic top wall merging with upper transverse extent of the front wall. The head also includes a first group of narrow, metallic, shock wave distributing dendrites extending from the front wall generally rearwardly adjacent the underside of the top wall and integral therewith; the dendrites spaced apart in a transverse direction, the maximum height dimensions of the dendrites below the underside of the top wall being between 0. 050 and 0. 100 inches and the dendrites being downwardly convex in cross-section.

Abstract:

A portable cooler for use in transporting medicines or the like which must be kept at lower than room temperature includes an insulative housing containing a coolant compartment and a medicine compartment, each having its own lid, and heat sinks in the compartments thermally connected by a heat tube. Water ice, dry ice, or a chilled gel may be utilized as the coolant. The whole assembly is enclosed in a carrying case about the size and weight of a carrying case for binoculars or a camera.

Abstract:

Metal is melted in an induction-heated crucible (13) on which a mold (10) with a downward-facing filling opening (26) is located in the melting position. After melting the metal, the crucible (13) and the mold (10) are jointly rotated about a horizontal axis (A--A) into a tilting position in which the molten material flows from the crucible (13) into the mold (10). In order to melt reactive metals, melting is done in a crucible (13) that is surrounded by a vacuum, this crucible being surrounded by an induction coil (15) outside of the vacuum. The mold (10) is located in a vacuum-sealed casting chamber (6) which is evacuated together with the crucible (13) prior to melting and casting is carried out by a joint tilting of the crucible (13), casting chamber (6) and mold (10) by at least 180 degrees while the vacuum is maintained.

Abstract:

Tooling for injection molding a wax pattern in connection with investment casting of a metal wood golf club head, in which the golf club head is a positive duplicate of the wax pattern and has a body having an exterior, a hollow interior accessible through an orifice, a weld rim surrounding the orifice, and at least one gate disposed on the weld rim. The tooling includes collapsible core means having a shape complementary to the interior of the golf club head and the wax pattern. The collapsible core means may be disassembled and removed from a wax pattern formed around the core means. The tooling also includes a tooling body that defines a sealable wax pattern cavity that is complementary to the exterior of the golf club head and includes passage means to allow injection of molten wax into the cavity. The tooling further includes gate forming means that include gating cavities disposed at those portions of the wax pattern cavity that are complementary to the gate or gates disposed on the weld rim of the golf club head.

A payload delivery and recovery system, having a payload including a data collection device arranged to collect data, and a controllable ascent vehicle comprising a controllable lighter than air (LTA) mechanism detachably coupled to the payload and used during an ascent phase to deliver the payload to a pre-determined altitude. The payload delivery and recovery system also having a controllable descent mechanism releasably attached to the controllable ascent vehicle and that can be used during a descent phase for reducing a rate of descent of the payload subsequent to release of the payload at the pre-determined altitude and including a control system for navigating the payload to a desired ground location during a recovery phase.
