Abstract:

A pumpable slurry of shredded scrap solid carbonaceous plastic-containing material that contains associated inorganic matter in admixture with a comminuted aluminosilicate-containing material having noncombustible constituents is reacted by partial oxidation to produce synthesis gas, reducing gas, or fuel gas. The noncombustible constituents in the aluminosilicate-containing material captures the inorganic matter in the scrap solid carbonaceous plastic-containing material while in the reducing atmosphere of the gasifier to produce nontoxic, nonleachable slag. The slurrying medium is water, liquid hydrocarbonaceous fuel, or mixtures thereof. Scrap plastics may be disposed of by the subject process without polluting the nation's environment.

Abstract:

Jerky products having a high proportion of meat are produced on a mass production basis. Meat which is at least substantially frozen is comminuted and then heated to a temperature of least about 140. degree. F. to at least partially denature protein of the meat. The cooked meat is then cooled to a temperature sufficiently low to solidify the fat which melted during the cooking step. A binding agent, most preferably a cold water soluble starch and guar gum, is admixed with the cooked meat to compensate for the loss of binding power resulting from denaturing of the protein during the cooking step. Mixing of the binding agent with the cooled, cooked meat and other ingredients such as seasonings and fillers is conducted to obtain a machinable meat-based dough. The meat-based dough may be sheeted or rotary molded to form pieces which may be baked and/or dried within a short period of time to obtain shelf stable products which are flexible and bendable without breaking and which exhibit the distinct texture and rough appearance of jerky.

Abstract:

An assembly of a quench liquid distribution ring and dip-tube with or without a draft tube for use in a hot effluent gas quench cooling zone containing a pool of quench liquid in the bottom in combination with a vertical cylindrical free-flow refractory lined reaction zone of a partial oxidation gas generator. The hot effluent gas from the reaction zone passes through a bottom central discharge outlet and passage and then through a coaxial vertical dip-tube that extends down into a pool of quench liquid. A quench liquid distribution ring that includes an annular rectangular shaped bottom feed quench liquid distribution channel, surrounds the outside diameter of the dip-tube at its upstream end. A quench ring face and cover is provided that comprises a vertical cylindrical shaped leg portion and a top horizontal flat ring plate portion that extends perpendicularly outward from the upstream end of the leg portion. The cylindrical shaped leg portion extends downward and overlaps the inside surface of the inner wall of said annular rectangular shaped quench liquid distribution channel thereby providing an annular shaped gap therebetween.
